Qatar has sent 4,000 cabins built to house fans at last year’s World Cup to earthquake survivors in Türkiye and Syria, authorities said Monday.  The Associated Press watched as the latest batch of pre-fabricated cabins was loaded onto a cargo ship in the Persian Gulf. Erdoğan: Cost of devastation caused by February quakes in Türkiye has exceeded 104 billion dollars

Addressing the International Donors' Conference for Türkiye and Syria held in Brussels, via videoconference, Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated that the cost of devastation caused by the earthquakes that struck southeastern Türkiye on February 6 has reached 104 billion dollars. Stating that the earthquakes caused extensive destruction and substantial loss of life in 11 provinces home to 14 million citizens, Erdoğan said: “Over 51 thousand people died and more than 105 thousand people were injured. Preliminary information indicates that the damage caused by the quakes has exceeded 104 billion dollars.”

EU Commission mobilises one billion for reconstruction of Türkiye

President of the EU Commission Ursula von der Leyen stated in the donors’ conference held in Brussels on Monday that the EU Commission will support Türkiye with EUR 1 billion for the post-earthquake reconstruction.
