Türkiye to end northern Iraq operation soon, Erdoğan says

Türkiye will end its "Claw-Lock" cross-border operation in northern Iraq soon, President Tayyip Erdoğan said on Saturday. "We will close the lock very soon in the Claw Operation Zone in northern Iraq," Erdoğan said at the National Defence University's graduation ceremony. Turkish forces have carried out cross-border operations against PKK militants in northern Iraq since 2019. The PKK, designated a terrorist group by Türkiye, the United States and the European Union, took up arms against the Turkish state in 1984. More than 40,000 people have been killed in the insurgency.

Türkiye may soon take concrete steps to normalise relations with Syria. This statement was made by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan upon his return from Washington, where he attended the NATO summit. According to Anadolu Agency, Erdoğan stated, "I have instructed Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to meet with his colleagues and draft a roadmap for the process. We consistently emphasise that Syria's territorial integrity aligns with our interests. Currently, the normalisation process is progressing positively. I hope we will take concrete steps soon."

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said that Türkiye aims to become a member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). Speaking at a press conference in Washington, Erdoğan said, "Our goal is to become a permanent member.
