The Directorate of Communications organised a comprehensive environment and climate media tour in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change, between 9 and 11 May 2026. The second leg of the media tour, the first of which was held in İstanbul and Kocaeli on 27–29 March 2026, took place in Hatay and İstanbul.
Held under the title “Road to COP31: Sustainable Future International Media Program,” the organisation aimed to raise international media awareness ahead of the COP31 Summit, which Türkiye will host in November. A total of 18 foreign journalists from 12 countries — the United Kingdom, Hungary, Spain, South Korea, Italy, Serbia, Morocco, Japan, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Azerbaijan and the TRNC — participated in the programme.
Through the programme, Türkiye’s environmental and climate policies, its vision for sustainable development, and the domestically developed technologies in this field were presented to members of the international press. Türkiye’s efforts to combat climate change, its innovative practices in environmental management, and its scientific research infrastructure were introduced to a global audience.
As part of the media tour, participants first conducted a field visit in Hatay within the scope of the “Türkiye’s Road to COP31: Resilient Cities Programme.” They later met with the Minister of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change and COP31 President Murat Kurum. During the meeting, international journalists were briefed on the ongoing reconstruction efforts in Hatay — one of the most meaningful examples of the reconstruction of the century — as well as Türkiye’s urbanisation policies and COP31 vision.
On the final day of the programme, participants visited the İstanbul Indoor Vertical Farming Application Centre, the world’s second-deepest production facility of its kind. They were informed about sustainability and digital transformation in agriculture. Lastly, participants visited the environmental awareness truck, organised within the scope of the Green Campus Festival by the Türkiye Environment Agency, an affiliated body of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change, to promote environmental awareness among young people.
Within the scope of the “Environment and Climate Media Tours,” four more press tours will be organised ahead of the COP31 Summit.
