Our Directorate held a panel titled "Stratcom Public Forum: A Fairer World is Possible" in Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijani MPs, journalists, academics, non-governmental organisation members, and a large number of guests attended the panel in Baku.
A video message from the Presidency's Head of Communications, Fahrettin Altun, was shown at the panel. The panel, moderated by Prof İrfan Kaya Ülger from Kocaeli University, discussed ways to make the world fairer.
Speaking at the opening of the panel, the Press Counsellor of Türkiye's Embassy in Baku, Cihangir İşbilir, remarked that the world is experiencing a period of uncertainty wherein traditional diplomatic procedures and the system of international relations have become obsolete, and international organisations, particularly the United Nations, are having difficulty finding effective solutions to contemporary problems. Declaring that the international security architecture no longer favours multilateralism, İşbilir continued, ''Türkiye endeavours to establish an inclusive, transparent, and accountable system in accordance with its entrepreneurial and humanitarian foreign policy approach.'' Stating that the current international system fails to bring peace, İşbilir remarked, "It is time to act together to reform and change this system, which cannot produce justice, sanctions, and peace."
Dr Cavid Veliyev, the Head of the Foreign Policy Analysis Department of Azerbaijan, noted that the order established after World War II has lost its functionality, and the order of the international relations system has been disrupted. Remarking that the lack of a central authority in the international system results in sovereign states mutually escalating tensions, Veliyev stated, "Therefore, a new order must be established. As Türkiye and Azerbaijan, as the Turkic world, we must act together. As the Organisation of Turkic States, we must fill the power vacuum in our region by strengthening trade, politics, and security."
Vusala Mahirgizi, the General Director of the Azeri Press Agency (APA) Media Group, stated that for a fair world, the media should also adopt a fair attitude. Remarking that the Western media is generally biased and unfair, Mahirgizi stated, ''Erdoğan's statement, 'The world is bigger than five,' is very accurate. This needs to be applied to the media as well. The world media is also bigger than five. Turkish and Azerbaijani media should further strengthen their ties."
Maarif Foundation Representative to Azerbaijan Serdar Gündoğan outlined the worldwide activities of the Foundation. Gündoğan stated that the world is unfair, with societies that are unable to access education or provided with biased and unsuitable education, and added, "At Maarif Foundation, we believe that the injustice in the world must be uprooted, and we are making efforts to ensure this."
Azerbaijan Defense University Deputy Rector Prof. Nurettin Acır also commented on the functions of the United Nations and other similar organisations. Acır noted that although such organisations are necessary for people to coexist, they became dysfunctional and failed to adopt an approach that embraces everyone equitably and equally and continued:
"The world has enough resources for all humanity. Yet, it is not shared equally. This is the crux of all issues in international relations. Despite the world having enough resources for everyone, they are not shared fairly. We are all responsible for leaving a habitable world for the future generations. The international order based on power must urgently begin to conceive a just world." Underscoring that countries striving to make their presence felt in the world must have a military, informational, and economic superiority, Acır said, "You need to have a charismatic army. You must have a technological edge. A deterrent and brave army is essential."
Regarding the incidents in Palestine, Acır remarked, "In the aftermath of World War II, the Holocaust has been the factor that influenced the world in terms of military and psychology. Palestine is the Holocaust of the new century. If the Turkic and Islamic worlds thoroughly analyse the Palestinian issue and achieve the necessary enlightenment, this matter would be the Holocaust of the new century. The entire world will find peace and tranquillity upon attaining a conviction in this respect. The stronger the Turk, the more peaceful the world. The weaker the Turk, the more fragile the peace in the world."
The panel included a roundtable meeting, a photo exhibition with the theme "Century of Türkiye," and the screening of the painter "Devrim Erbil" documentary.
