Panel on “A Fairer World is Possible” held in Albania

Our Directorate held a panel titled "Stratcom Public Forum: A Fairer World is Possible" in Albania.

The panel, held in the capital city of Tirana, was attended by the Turkish Ambassador to Tirana, Tayyar Kağan Atay, representatives of Turkish and Albanian institutions and organisations in the country, and numerous visitors.

A video message from the Presidency's Head of Communications, Fahrettin Altun, was shown at the panel.

Moderated by Prof. Fırat Purtaş from Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University, the panel was home to discussions on ways to achieve a fairer world.

Speaking at the inauguration of the panel, Ambassador Atay pointed out that Türkiye calls for a fairer world.

Stating that they have seen the veto of the big countries in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) fail, Atay said: "President of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan personally voices this concern and believes that the world is bigger than five. This is a very strong calling."

Emphasising that a fairer world is possible, Atay stated, "We are ready to work to ensure global stability for the sake of a common future."

"International institutions and organisations play a fundamental role in ensuring peace in a growing world"

Director General of the Media and Information Agency of Albania, Alteo Hysi, voiced his appreciation for the Presidency's Directorate of Communications for organising the panel and stated, "I believe that the public debate regarding the enhancement, equity, and efficacy of our international system is enriched by embracing a variety of perspectives and ideas by various actors."

Underscoring that the need for reforms at the United Nations (UN) has become a requirement, the former Ambassador of Albania to Ankara, Genci Mucaj, stated, "In a growing world, international institutions and organisations play a fundamental role in ensuring peace, security, economic stability, and sustainability."

The Chairman of the Alternative of the Future Foundation (ALSAR), Mehdi Gurra, emphasised that the crisis engulfing multilateralism poses a significant obstacle to achieving a fairer world. Gurra stated, "International institutions established after World War II are increasingly inadequate in addressing current challenges such as geopolitical tensions and old wounds that were artificially and temporarily closed long ago. The contemporary international system has failed to resolve many of these challenges."

"Türkiye is a friendly and very important country for us"

Pointing out that Türkiye has become a global power, the Chairman of the Albanian Institute for International Studies (AIIS), Albert Rakibi, stated, "Türkiye is a friendly and very important country for us. There is also a strategic partnership between the two countries. I especially applaud President Erdoğan's statement that 'the world is bigger than five'. This statement shows the importance of such an agenda, such a forum."

Hasan Kalyoncu University Faculty Member and SETA Researcher Assoc. Dr Murat Aslan also said, "There must be a decision-making process where the General Assembly is more effective alongside the UN Security Council."

The panel also featured a documentary on the painter Devrim Erbil, as well as a photography exhibition themed "The Century of Türkiye."
