“Memory and Truth: 28 February and Disinformation Panel” organised

The Presidency's Directorate of Communications organised a panel titled "Memory and Truth: 28 February and Disinformation" in the Directorate's Conference Hall.

The panel began with opening remarks by Prof. Burhanettin Duran, the Presidency's Head of Communications.

Moderated by Prof. Nebi Miş, the General Coordinator of SETA, the session titled "28 February: Perceptions and Realities" was concluded with contributions from Leyla Şahin Usta, the Ankara MP; Yasin Şamlı, Head of the Istanbul No. 2 Bar Association, Attorney; and Okan Müderrisoğlu, the Ankara Representative of Sabah Newspaper.

Furthermore, Head of Communications Duran shared a post on his NSosyal account regarding the "Memory and Truth: 28 February and Disinformation Panel."

In his post, Head of Communications Duran said:

"I hope that the panel on 'Memory and Truth: 28 February and Disinformation', organised by the Presidency's Directorate of Communications, will lead to auspicious outcomes.

Through the 28 February process, Türkiye was intended to be deprived of several opportunities that the 2000s would offer and of the right to a peaceful and prosperous future.

Undoubtedly, the youth, particularly young women, bore the heaviest burden of the 28 February process.

Throughout history, no movement that has waged war against its own people and succeeded has ever endured.

The process that was said to 'last a thousand years' could only last a few years.

With its insight and determination, our esteemed nation was able to completely dismantle the tutelage system in a short period of time.

In 2002, the political and social movement led by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan gained widespread support from the public.

Türkiye embarked on an uninterrupted journey to achieve one of the greatest 'silent revolutions' in our democratic history.

As a nation today, we have completely left behind the tutelary, prohibitive, elitist mindset that sees itself above the people and have stepped into the 'Century of Türkiye' under the leadership of our President.

As the Presidency's Directorate of Communications, we will resolutely continue our efforts to ensure that the media and digital platforms never again return to the dark days of the past, when headlines toppled governments and false news and disinformation were used to manipulate public opinion through attempts at social engineering.

Under the leadership of our President, we are working tirelessly, day and night, with all our units to strengthen the front of truth and to counter lies and disinformation with all our might, and we shall continue to do so.

On that note, I would like to express my gratitude to our distinguished guests for attending our panel and thank everyone whose contributions made this event possible."
