Filming for the Gaziantep leg of the documentary “Where Is the Herd Going?”, produced as part of the “Silk Road Caravan” initiative carried out under the coordination of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change in cooperation with the Presidency’s Directorate of Communications, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and the UNCCD, has been completed.
The "Silk Road Caravan", which set off from Erzurum as part of the documentary "Where Is the Herd Going?", commissioned by the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), reached Gaziantep on the sixth day of its journey.
The caravan, which continued filming the documentary ‘Where Is the Herd Going?’ during its journey, completed the Gaziantep leg after visiting the pastures and meadows in the rural neighbourhood of Sarıt, part of the city’s Şahinbey district.
The filming covered topics such as the province’s traditional production culture and livestock activities, vegetation, natural pasturelands, and small and large livestock farming.
Fatma Toru, Deputy Director-General for Combating Desertification and Erosion at the Ministry of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change, told an AA correspondent that the documentary would be screened at the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the UNCCD, to be held in Mongolia.
Emphasising the importance of the documentary for Türkiye in terms of the climate crisis, Fatma Toru said:
"So far, through our interactions, we have noticed that the visiting delegation was quite impressed and pleased both by their on-site observations and by the meetings they held with local people. They also expressed this themselves. We believe that, among the countries they will visit as part of these contacts, they will find the greatest diversity and the most impressive visuals in our country. Stemming from our ancient past, we possess a significant historical, cultural, environmental, and ecological richness. They have now seen this richness here."
Yazan Neme, a UNCCD representative, said that in the documentary, they wanted to draw attention to the importance of pastures for humanity.
Yazan Neme stated that they carry out activities as part of combating the climate crisis with people from various countries, despite not sharing a common language, and noted that they will depart for Antalya today and continue preparations for the documentary filming.
