The “Disinformation in Digital Media and the New-Generation Content Ecosystem” session was held as part of the “National Youth Summit on Combating Disinformation 2026” programme organised by the Directorate of Communications.
The second session of the panel, held under the title “Disinformation in Digital Media and the New-Generation Content Ecosystem,” began under the moderation of Aslan Değirmenci, Digital Media Coordinator at the Presidency’s Directorate of Communications.
The second session featured Doğukan Gezer, Editor-in-Chief of GZT; Ömer Faruk Görçin, Manager of Anadolu Agency’s Fact-Checking Line; Hamza Özdemir, Director of Digital Strategy and Social Media at Turkuvaz Media Group; and Yasin Tekşen, Editor-in-Chief of GDH, as speakers.
Speaking at the session, GZT Editor-in-Chief Gezer stated: “Preserving editorial judgement without yielding to the speed of algorithms has become one of the most critical responsibilities of digital media.”
Hamza Özdemir, Director of Digital Strategy and Social Media at Turkuvaz Media Group, drew attention to the dangers posed by artificial intelligence and deepfake technologies, saying: “With the rise of artificial intelligence and deepfake technologies, we are now obliged to question every piece of content we encounter. Meanwhile, the power to manipulate the digital world continues to grow day by day in the hands of global technology companies.”
Commenting on disinformation-driven news content, Anadolu Agency Fact-Checking Line Manager Görçin said: “It is impossible to verify the accuracy of every piece of content we encounter. To access reliable information, we must strengthen our critical thinking skills, rely on trustworthy news sources, and follow fact-checking platforms.”
GDH Editor-in-Chief Tekşen, meanwhile, underscored the importance of journalists by stating: “The era of journalists who guide artificial intelligence, rather than merely use it, is beginning.”
