“Communication Training Programme” organised in TRNC with Türkiye’s contributions

The "Communication Training Programme" was organised in collaboration with the Directorate of Communications and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus' (TRNC) Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The "Communication Training Programme," held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Uğur Umar Conference Hall, kicked off with opening remarks by Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu, Minister of Foreign Affairs of TRNC, Ali Murat Başçeri, Türkiye's Ambassador to Nicosia, and Assoc. Prof Bora Bayraktar, Head of the Strategic Communication and Crisis Management Department of the Presidency's Directorate of Communications.

In his speech, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the TRNC, Ertuğruloğlu, emphasised that Turkish Cypriots have been compelled to live in isolation and seclusion for years. He also stated that they had Türkiye's support in all areas.

Ertuğruloğlu, emphasising the significance of communication in the legitimate struggle of Turkish Cypriots, remarked, "Why shouldn't the BRT be like the TRT? Why shouldn't the Turkish Agency Cyprus be like the Anadolu Agency? In a world where communication is so crucial, and disinformation is so dangerous, we must learn and utilise many more effective communication elements."

Başçeri, Türkiye's Ambassador to Lefkosa, also emphasised the significance of communication in determining the accuracy of statements from both sides in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran, and he said that it would be beneficial to share the knowledge and experience gained by the Directorate of Communications of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye with counterparts operating in this field in TRNC.

Noting that they closely observed public diplomacy and public communication concepts gaining more significance in today's age than ever before, Bora Bayraktar, Head of the Department of Strategic Communication and Crisis Management at the Presidency's Directorate of Communication, highlighted the necessity of having fundamental knowledge in these areas.

Bayraktar pointed out that disinformation is a potent weapon used through social media and noted that this issue must be addressed with awareness within the context of diplomacy and journalism.

During the "Communication Training Program," which began after the speeches, participants were informed on the topics of "Public Diplomacy," "Content Management in Times of Crisis," "Artificial Intelligence," "Correct Use of Social Media and Combating Disinformation," and "Public Communication."
