World leaders extend condolences to President Erdoğan and Türkiye

Many heads of state and government sent messages of condolence to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on the lives lost in the coal mine blast in Bartın province.

Numerous heads of state and government, including those of Russia, Azerbaijan, the Netherlands, Spain, Ukraine, Qatar, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Greece, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Georgia, Hungary, Palestine, Guinea Bissau, Belarus, Libya, and Jordan, voiced their condolences for the victims of the mining accident in Bartın.

Through their respective foreign ministries and embassies, the United States, China, The United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, Austria, Sweden, Poland, Bulgaria, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Moldova, Montenegro, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Oman, Bahrain, and Iraq, as well as international organisations such as the Council of Europe, the Organisation of Turkic States, the United Nations, and the World Health Organization, all issued messages of condolence to Türkiye.

In a message to President Erdoğan, President Putin of Russia said, "Mr President, please accept our deepest condolences regarding the tragic consequences of the accident in the mining pit in Bartın. We would like to convey our sincere support to the families and loved ones of the miners who lost their lives and wish the injured a speedy recovery.”

President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan said in a message to President Erdoğan, "Dear Brother... We feel your pain. On behalf of the Azerbaijani people and myself, I offer my heartfelt condolences to you, the families and relatives of those who lost their lives, as well as the brotherly people of Türkiye, and wish the injured a speedy recovery."

Prime Minister Mark Rutte of the Netherlands conveyed a message to President Erdoğan, saying, "Tayyip, my dear friend... We share your pain in light of the mining accident that took place in Bartın. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of those who have passed.”

In his message to President Erdoğan, Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez of Spain expressed his most profound condolences, stating, “Spain stands with you in these darkest hours.”

President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine shared a post in Turkish, saying, "With great sadness, I learned of the mining explosion in the Amasra district of Bartın. I offer my condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives and wish a speedy recovery to the injured.”

President Ersin Tatar of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) wished Allah's mercy on those who lost their lives in the mine explosion and stated, "I hope for the speedy healing of our nation.”

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan said in a message he sent to President Erdoğan, "On behalf of all Kazakhstanis and my behalf, I express deep condolences to you and the families who lost their loved ones, and share with you this inconsolable grief, and pray to Allah for a swift recovery of all those injured." 

Following the mining explosion in Bartın, Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamid Al Thani of Qatar expressed his condolences to President Erdoğan. 

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis expressed his sadness over the mine explosion and deaths in Bartın in a statement on his social media account. 

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif of Pakistan expressed deep sadness over the loss of lives in the mining explosion, saying, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families and the Turkish people.” 

President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan stated in his message that they were deeply saddened by the mine explosion in Bartın and extended their heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their lives on behalf of the Tajik people. 

President Salome Zourabichvili and Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili of Georgia also conveyed their deepest condolences to the Turkish people and government in their messages. 

President Umaro Sissoco Embalo of Guinea Bissau expressed his condolences on behalf of his country and the Economic Organisation of Western African States (ECOWAS).

In their messages, President Sadyr Japarov of Kyrgyzstan, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan, Head of State Mahmoud Abbas of Palestine, President Katalin Novak of Hungary, President Aleksander Lukashenko of Belarus, Head of Libya’s High Council of State Khaled Al-Mishri, Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah of Jordan, and Ulf Kristersson, who is expected to become Sweden’s Prime Minister, conveyed their condolences for those who died during the mine explosion in Bartın.

Condolences from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs 

British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly, French Minister of Foreign Affairs Catherine Colonna, Swedish Minister of Foreign Affairs Ann Linde, Dutch Minister of Foreign Affairs Wopke Hoekstra, Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs Zbigniew Rau and Georgian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ilia Darchiashvili also expressed their condolences for those who lost their lives as a result of the mine quarry accident on their social media accounts. 

Foreign Ministries of Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Montenegro, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Oman, Jordan, Bahrain, and Iraq all issued statements of condolence to the Turkish people and state. 

Condolence messages to Türkiye were shared on social media by the embassies of the United States, Italy, China, and Qatar in Ankara.

Among the countries that sent a "get well soon" message to Türkiye were the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Belgium, Djibouti, Denmark, Ethiopia, Finland, Croatia, Iraqi Kurdish Regional Government, Ireland, Israel, Kosovo, Kuwait, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Maldives, Malta, Norway, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Somalia. 
Condolences from international organisations

The Council of the European Union, the United Nations, the Organisation of Turkic States, the European Parliament, the World Health Organisation, the Black Sea Cooperation Organisation, and the International Labour Organization all expressed condolences to those who lost loved ones in the coal mine, as well as the Turkish people.
