Statement regarding the claim that “the US Congress requested to see the original decision with wet signatures”

The claim that "the US Congress requested to see the original decision with wet signatures" regarding Sweden's NATO membership is not true.

The United States is the "depositary", or custodian of records, for over 200 multilateral treaties, including the United Nations Charter, the International Atomic Energy Agency, and the North Atlantic Treaty (NATO's founding treaty).

The United States, in its capacity as a depositary, retains the "original" treaty texts and facilitates their signature as appropriate. Additionally, the depositary receives treaty-related instruments, such as ratification instruments. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan signed the Presidential Decree on Sweden's Accession to the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), approving the promulgation of the law on the ratification of Sweden's membership adopted by the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye. The text of the decision was transmitted to the depositary, the United States, for the reasons clearly stated above.

Unfounded claims should not be given credit.
