Latin America offers condolences to Türkiye following coal mine blast

Latin American countries, including Venezuela, El Salvador, Mexico, Bolivia, Paraguay, Chile, Colombia, Panama, and Cuba, have issued messages of condolence in response to the accident that occurred in the coal mine of the Turkish Hard Coal Enterprises (TTK) Amasra Establishment and resulted in the death of 41 people.

President Nicolás Maduro of Venezuela shared a post on his social media account, saying, “From Venezuela, we express our solidarity with the people of Türkiye and our friend, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in the wake of the tragic mine explosion in Bartın, which resulted in human casualties. My heartfelt condolences and sympathies go out to the families.”

Minister of Foreign Affairs Alexandra Hill Tinoco of El Salvador remarked on her social media account, “My sincere condolences to the families of the victims of the coal mine explosion at Bartın. Wishing all those injured a prompt recovery.”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico shared a post on its official social media account, conveying the message, “The people and government of Mexico express their condolences and solidarity to the Republic of Türkiye and the families of those killed in this tragic accident in the province of Bartın.”

The message issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bolivia said, "We, as Bolivia, extend our condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the Amasra mine blast. We offer our sympathies to those injured as a result of this tragic catastrophe and wish them a speedy recovery.”

A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Paraguay said, "The Government of the Republic of Paraguay extends its condolences and solidarity to the people and government of Türkiye for the accident that occurred in a mine in Amasra district on October 14 and killed dozens of people." 

A written statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile noted: 

"The Chilean government expresses sorrow over the tragedy that occurred on October 14 at a coal mine in Bartın's Amasra district in northern Türkiye, killing dozens. It expresses its sympathy and sorrow to the families of those who died and extends these sentiments to the Turkish people and government.”

A written statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Colombia noted, “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its deepest solidarity with the people of the Republic of Türkiye in the aftermath of the terrible explosion in a coal mine in Bartın on behalf of the Colombian people. Condolences to the families of those who have died, and best wishes to those who have been injured for a speedy recovery.”

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Panama shared a post on its social media account, saying, “We express our condolences to Türkiye and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on behalf of President Nito Cortizo and the people of Panama for the death of 41 people in a coal mine explosion. We wish the Turkish people strength during this difficult time and extend our condolences to the families of those who have died.”

Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodriguez of Cuba issued a statement on his social media account, noting, “We express our condolences to the Turkish people and government in response to the deaths and injuries caused by a mine explosion in Bartın."
