CICA’s 6th Summit to kick off in Astana on October 12

Heads of state of 11 countries, including President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President Vladimir Putin of Russia, and President Ebrahim Raisi of Iran, will meet in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, where the 6th Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) will be held this week.

At the press conference on high-level visits to the country this week, Kazakhstan Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Aybek Smadiyarov stated that the 6th CICA Summit would be held in the capital Astana on October 12-13.

Smadiyarov stated that the Summit would be hosted by  President Kassym-Jomart K. Tokayev of Kazakhstan and will be attended by heads of state from CICA members, including President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Türkiye, President Vladimir Putin of Russia, President Ebrahim Raisi of Iran, President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan, Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar, President Barham Salih of Iraq, President Mahmoud Abbas of Palestine, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan, President Sadyr Japarov of Kyrgyzstan, President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan, as well as President Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus as an observer state.

"We assume that the 6th CICA Summit will be one of the biggest foreign policy events not only in the region but also in the continent in the post-Covid-19 period," said Smadiyarov, who stated that nearly 50 delegations from 27 member states will attend the Summit of CICA, which represents approximately 90 per cent of the Asian continent.

Smadiyarov also stated that the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) would be held in Astana on October 14.

Stressing that the heads of state of the CIS member countries will meet face-to-face for the first time after Covid-19, Smadiyarov said, "We expect the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan to participate in the event. Ukraine has suspended its participation in CIS events in recent years and will not be sending any representatives to the Summit. The President of Moldova will not be able to attend due to her busy work schedule. "
