The Directorate of Communications will organise the exhibition "The Birth of a Friendship: Korea 70 Years Ago Through the Lens of a Turkish Photographer" in Seoul from 3 to 12 November 2026.
Featuring photographs captured by the renowned photographer İzzet Keribar during his years in South Korea as a soldier and interpreter, the exhibition "The Birth of a Friendship: Korea 70 Years Ago Through the Lens of a Turkish Photographer" will be held from 3 to 12 November 2026 to contribute to the bilateral relations and collective memory of the two friendly countries, Türkiye and South Korea, through culture and art.
As part of the event, the exhibition will open to visitors and feature photographs taken in Korea in 1956 and 1957 by master photographer İzzet Keribar. Offering a glimpse into South Korea during its post-war recovery period nearly 70 years ago, the selection will bring Keribar's personal testimony and the period's visual memory to contemporary audiences.
The photography book featuring İzzet Keribar's photographs of South Korea, "The Birth of a Friendship: Korea 70 Years Ago Through the Lens of a Turkish Photographer," will also be launched during the programme. Seventy years later, Keribar's photographs depicting daily life in post-war South Korea, the country's recovery process, and our heroic soldiers who stood by the South Korean people throughout this process will be showcased to the South Korean public.
Opening on 3 November at the War Memorial of Korea Museum, the exhibition will continue to welcome visitors until 12 November. As part of Türkiye's cultural and public diplomacy activities, the exhibition and book launch are expected to provide a meaningful platform for cultural engagement with the South Korean public and to strengthen the bonds of friendship and brotherhood between the two countries.
