Türkiye's foreign minister is in Iraq to discuss trade, border security and water resources. The two-day visit beginning Sunday will include stops in the autonomous Kurdish region and Basra, Iraq's main oil hub. Türkiye is expected to rebalance its oil supplies after the U.S. announced it would end the waivers that have allowed Türkiye to import from Iran despite sanctions. Iraq is one of Türkiye's leading suppliers of crude oil. Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu met with his Iraqi counterpart, Mohamed Alhakim, in Baghdad on Sunday. He said Türkiye would send a special representative...

It was the worst violence in the South Asian country since its civil war ended a decade ago. Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said: "Regardless of the motive, the attack in Sri Lanka is the same as the traitorous...

Erdogan’s wife given humanitarian award in London

A London charity network with links to Türkiye, Qatar and the Muslim Brotherhood has bestowed a humanitarian award on President Erdogan’s wife in what critics alleged was an image-polishing exercise. The “Changemaker” award was presented to Emine Erdogan at the World Humanitarian Forum for her work championing refugees. Accepting the prize at the Excel Arena, in east London, on Wednesday, Mrs Erdogan, 64, said that she felt great pride that her country was recognised for its egalitarian approach in “dressing the wounds of the world”. Her husband’s international policy advocates humanitarianism. Türkiye has sent tonnes of aid...

Turkish finance minister says he had fruitful meetings at the White House

Finance Minister Berat Albayrak said on Monday he held very productive meetings in Washington with international financial institutions, following the unveiling last week of Türkiye's economic turnaround plan. It was not immediately clear what the two discussed. Albayrak has been in Washington since last Thursday, his first official visit to the US capital since he took charge of the economy last July. Türkiye condemns French and Italian recognition of Armenian genocide

Türkiye on Thursday strongly condemned separate decisions by France and Italy to officially recognise the mass killings of Armenians a century ago as a "genocide", an issue that has regularly caused friction between Türkiye and European Union nations. French President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday signed a decision that set April 24 as a day of annual commemoration. Macron had announced the decision in February, following through with a 2017 campaign promise. Türkiye's Foreign Ministry said Macron had used this promise to win Armenian votes during elections. "It is inevitable that France's attitude, which is far from amicable,...

Türkiye urges Israel to abandon strong rhetoric

Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu is urging Israel to abandon strong "rhetoric and populism" now that the elections are over. Cavusoglu's comments were in an apparent reference to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's recent pledge to annex Jewish settlements in the West Bank if he wins the election. The minister told Türkiye's NTV news channel on Wednesday that Israel "must put aside the populism and the rhetoric, it must abandon its aggressive stance." Cavusoglu also called on the United States to be an "honest broker" in the Mideast dispute, saying a U.S. peace plan for the region must be...
