Worldwide disaster support to Türkiye continues

Following the earthquakes, the epicentre of which was the Pazarcık district of Kahramanmaraş and affected ten provinces in total, disaster support has been arriving from many countries.

USA

Representative of the US to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield stated that she was "deeply saddened" by the loss of life caused by the earthquakes impacting Türkiye and Syria and that the United States "stands ready to provide assistance."

Underlining that US President Joe Biden authorised an immediate US response to those affected by the earthquake, Thomas-Greenfield said, "I echo the UN Secretary-General's call to the international community to urgently increase critical funding and assistance to help those affected." 

Thomas-Greenfield stated that Türkiye was "generously" hosting over 3.5 million Syrian refugees, adding, "As the humanitarian agencies work to respond, the United States stands ready to provide assistance to those affected by the disaster."

Thomas-Greenfield noted that the medical facilities in Syria have been strained beyond capacity for a long time and that these earthquakes "compound the crises faced by vulnerable Syrians, as well as the challenges faced by UN agencies and NGOs providing assistance."

The US diplomat expressed her condolences to the families of those killed in the earthquake.

In a phone conversation with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Biden reaffirmed the readiness of the US to provide any and all needed assistance to Türkiye.

Afghanistan

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Interim Government of Taliban expressed condolences and sympathies to the Turkish and Syrian citizens for the loss of lives caused by the earthquake with Kahramanmaraş at its epicentre and stated that it shares the grief of both counties and people.

In a post on its social media account, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Interim Government of Taliban urged Islamic countries and aid organisations to take urgent action to assist the victims of the earthquake.

In his Twitter account, former President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani of Afghanistan said, "It is with a heavy heart that I offer my sincere condolences to those who have suffered the loss of loved ones in the wake of the devastating earthquake in Türkiye and Syria. I pray for the swift recovery of those who have been injured and are in the process of being rescued."

Hamid Karzai, former President of Afghanistan, also shared the following statement on his Facebook account:

"I was extremely saddened to learn that the earthquake in Türkiye inflicted severe human and financial losses. I offer my condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this tragic event, the Turkish state and people, and wish God's mercy on the martyrs, patience for their dear ones, and a speedy recovery to the injured."

Abdullah Abdullah, the former chairman of Afghanistan's High Council for National Reconciliation, said in a statement on his social media account, "Deeply saddened by the news of today's devastating earthquake in the Republic of Türkiye. I extend my condolences to the government and people of Türkiye. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families at this difficult time."

Germany

Many aid organizations in Germany, especially the Red Cross, started a donation campaign to help Türkiye and Syria after the earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş.

Organizations such as the German Red Cross (DRK), Bündnis Entwicklung Hilft, Aktion Deutschland Hilft and Humedica began collecting donations for earthquake victims on their websites.

The Turkish-Islamic Union of Religious Affairs (DITIB) also launched an aid campaign yesterday.

Argentina

President Alberto Fernandez of Argentina stated on his social media account that Argentina was in solidarity with the peoples and states of Türkiye and Syria due to the loss of many lives.

Australia and New Zealand

Australia and New Zealand also announced that they would send humanitarian aid to Türkiye and Syria due to the earthquakes.

At a joint press conference held in Canberra, the capital of Australia, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese of Australia and Prime Minister Chris Hipkins of New Zealand conveyed their condolences to the families who lost their loved ones due to the earthquake and both nations.

Stating that the earthquake in the region had a devastating impact, Albanese noted that the Australian government would initially send humanitarian aid worth 10 million Australian dollars via the Australian Red Cross to those affected by the earthquake.

On the other hand, Hipkins announced that New Zealand would provide 1.5 million New Zealand dollars in humanitarian aid, adding that further details on the issue would be released by the country's Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Azerbaijan

Many Azerbaijanis sent clothing, food, and supplies to support the campaign initiated by the "Century of Türkiye Unity and Solidarity Platform," established by Turkish businesspeople in Azerbaijan. The gathered supplies will soon be delivered to Türkiye.

The "Kardeş Kömeği (Brotherly Help)" platform, founded by some non-governmental organisations, also began to raise donations for earthquake victims in Türkiye.

While Azerbaijani NGOs mobilise for the earthquake victims in Türkiye, calls to support Türkiye are made in the press and on social media, and messages of solidarity and support are sent.

Many Azerbaijanis expressed their condolences and support at Türkiye's Embassy in Baku. Citizens laid wreaths and flowers in front of the Embassy.

One of the bus companies operating in Baku adorned all of its vehicles with Turkish flags.

The Turkish flag was projected on the exterior of the Heydar Aliyev Center, one of the architectural symbols, in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.

The exterior of the Heydar Aliyev Center was illuminated with the red and white colors of the Turkish flag to send a message of solidarity to the earthquake victims in Türkiye.

The Turkish flag will be projected on the exterior of the aforementioned center at 22:00 for several days.

Bahrain

Bahrain's King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa called President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to offer his condolences following the earthquake and wished mercy to the victims and a quick recovery for the injured.

United Arab Emirates

The official news agency of the United Arab Emirates, WAM, reported that President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan ordered emergency aid for earthquake victims in Türkiye and Syria, as well as the establishment of a field hospital and search and rescue teams.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) decided to provide 50 million dollars of support for the regions affected by the Kahramanmaraş earthquakes.

Bolivia

In his post on his Twitter account, President Luis Arce of Bolivia emphasised that they were in full solidarity with Türkiye and Syria and said, "The State of Bolivia expresses its heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and wishes the injured a quick recovery."

Algeria

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune ordered the Algerian Civil Protection Directorate to dispatch a search and rescue team to Türkiye, according to the state radio of Algeria. Local media reported that the search and rescue team would consist of 89 people.

Djibouti

In his message of condolence on his Twitter account, President Ismail Omar Guelleh of Djibouti said, "The people and government of Djibouti stand in solidarity with our brother country Türkiye in the wake of this tragedy. May God never again inflict such suffering on the brotherly Turkish nation."

Chad

President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno of Chad said in a statement that he was deeply saddened by the earthquake.

Itno offered his condolences to the victims of the earthquake and wished the injured a quick recovery.

China

China sent a civilian rescue team to Türkiye.

It was stated that the 8-person search and rescue team of Ramunion set off with a rescue radar, demolition and rescue equipment, and a specially trained dog.

According to reports, the team, scheduled to reach the disaster-affected area tomorrow at noon, has a wealth of experience in national and international search and rescue missions.

5.8 million dollars in financial aid

Meanwhile, the Beijing government has reportedly launched an emergency humanitarian aid mechanism to support Türkiye, according to Vice Chairman of China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) Deng Boqing.

Deng noted that Türkiye would receive emergency financial assistance of 40 million yuan (5.8 million dollars).

The Chinese Red Cross also announced that it would transfer 200 thousand dollars of emergency humanitarian aid to the Turkish Red Crescent. The officials of the organisation noted that they closely monitor the relief efforts in the quake-stricken areas and that they are prepared to offer more assistance if needed.

Democratic Republic of the Congo

Following the earthquakes with their epicentres in Kahramanmaraş, President Félix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of the Congo called President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to express his support. President Tshisekedi conveyed his condolences to those who lost their lives and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

El Salvador

Following the earthquakes with their epicentre in Kahramanmaraş, President Nayib Bukele of El Salvador declared that he would deploy a search and rescue team to Türkiye.

Posting in Turkish on his Twitter account, Bukele said, “In a few hours, El Salvador will dispatch a plane carrying more than 100 personnel to Türkiye, along with teams for search and rescue, civil protection, firefighters, and rescue dogs. We never stop praying for the Turkish people hurt by the two devastating earthquakes.”

In his first remark of the day, Bukele said that they prayed for the safety and well-being of the Turkish people as a result of the devastating earthquake that hit southern Türkiye and added, “My government is prepared to offer President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan any assistance required to overcome this tragic disaster.”

Palestine

Following the earthquakes with their epicentre in Kahramanmaraş, Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh of Palestine announced that civil defence and healthcare professionals will be dispatched to Türkiye and Syria to assist with search and rescue operations.

In a statement he posted on his social media account, Shtayyeh offered condolences to the families of those who had died in the earthquakes and wished those injured a quick recovery.

The Prime Minister announced that civil defence and healthcare professionals would be dispatched in accordance with the instructions of President Mahmoud Abbas of Palestine to assist in the search and rescue operations in connection with the earthquake that left thousands dead and injured in Türkiye and Syria.

Shtayyeh stated that necessary arrangements were made with the authorities of the two countries within the framework of facilitating the access of search and rescue teams to the earthquake-affected areas and the delivery of aid.

Finland and Sweden

Minister for Foreign Affairs of Finland Pekka Haavisto expressed his sorrow over the earthquakes by saying, “We recognise that people in the area undoubtedly require assistance during the winter. Both Türkiye and Syria will eventually need to undergo significant restructuring. It is crucial that we participate in this process as well.”

After meeting with Minister for Foreign Affairs of Sweden Tobias Billström, Haavisto made a speech at a press conference in Espoo, Finland.

Haavisto expressed his condolences for the victims of the earthquakes with their epicentre in Kahramanmaraş and noted that Finland responded swiftly by sending experts to Türkiye.

Stating their readiness to share the relief material obtained from the Red Cross and other sources, Haavisto said, “We are aware that these are very critical hours. Many people can still be rescued. We recognise that people in the area undoubtedly require assistance during the winter. Both Türkiye and Syria will eventually need to undergo significant restructuring. It is crucial that we participate in this process as well. “

Guatemala

Stating that they stand in solidarity with the people and government of Türkiye after the devastating earthquake that cost thousands of lives, President Alejandro Giammattei of Guatemala said on his Twitter account, “We express our condolences to the families of the deceased and raise our prayers. Our hearts remain with you.”

South Korea

The Speaker of the National Assembly of South Korea, Kim Jin-pyo, sent his condolences to the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye (TBMM) Mustafa Şentop, due to the earthquakes with their epicentre in Kahramanmaraş.

In a message of support sent to Şentop, Jin-pyo said, “We hope that people recover their wounds fast and as soon as possible. We also hope that they can get better and return to their peaceful daily lives.”

The message indicated that South Koreans were mourning the disaster in Türkiye.

President Yoon Suk-yeol of South Korea also ordered using military aircraft to deliver search and rescue teams and medical equipment to Türkiye.

South Sudan

On behalf of his government and people, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Mayiik Ayii Deng of South Sudan sent Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu a message of condolence and solidarity.

India

In a post that the Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, Arindam Bagchi of India, shared on his Twitter account, it was stated that the Minister of State for External Affairs, Vellamvelly Muraleedharan of India, visited the Embassy of Türkiye to express condolences on the devastation caused by the earthquakes.

Muraleedharan conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message of sympathy and humanitarian support and underscored the readiness to send relief materials, as well as the National Disaster Response Force and medical teams to assist Türkiye.

Netherlands

Thousands of people donated urgently needed items, such as blankets, hygiene products, baby diapers, winter clothing, and heaters, for those affected by the earthquake as part of aid campaigns held in various Dutch cities.

Some Turkish companies were on their way to deliver aid supplies gathered in warehouses, mosques, and other facilities to the earthquake-affected area.

Iraq

The Iraqi Red Crescent will send a team to help with the rescue efforts in Türkiye, as well as 60 tonnes of assistance and medical supplies for Syria, according to the official Iraqi News Agency (INA).

Turkmen Non-Governmental Organisations affiliated with the Iraqi Turkmen Front (ITC) also launched an aid campaign in seven cities of Iraq for the earthquake victims in Türkiye.

United Kingdom

The team and search dogs that the United Kingdom promised to send to assist with search and rescue operations in earthquakes with their epicentre in Kahramanmaraş have set out.

A tweet from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office of the United Kingdom read: “The UK is sending a team of 77 search and rescue specialists, state-of-the-art equipment, and search dogs to Türkiye.”

According to the statement, the team promptly prepared itself and would assist the earthquake victims.

Iran

President Ebrahim Raisi of Iran called President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan by phone and conveyed his support messages over the earthquake. Raisi wished Allah’s mercy upon those who lost their lives and a speedy recovery to the injured.

Spain

King Felipe VI of Spain extended a message of solidarity and relief to Türkiye and Syria due to the earthquakes.

King Felipe VI, who is on an official visit to Angola, said in a speech at the Presidential Palace in the capital Luanda, “Türkiye and Syria know they have all the solidarity and aid they need from the authorities and the Spanish people to overcome the dramatic consequences of this disaster as much as possible.”

Using the word “terrible” to describe the earthquakes, the King of Spain expressed his heartfelt sadness for the victims and extended his condolences.

President João Lourenço of Angola also stated at the beginning of his speech that he was deeply saddened by the news of earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria.

Israel

According to a statement released by the office of Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, the Minister discussed aid efforts for earthquake victims in Türkiye with the Chief of the General Staff of Israel, Herzi Halevi and approved the establishment of a field hospital in case of need.

Japan

The Japan Disaster Relief Rescue Team of 18 staff dispatched by Japan arrived in Istanbul.

The plane, which took off from Haneda Airport carrying three members of the Japan Disaster Relief Rescue Team and 15 rescue personnel, landed at Istanbul Airport.

Transferring from Istanbul Airport, the team then headed to Adana. The Japan Disaster Relief Rescue Team will support the search and rescue efforts in the earthquake area after landing in Adana.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan said, “In light of humanitarian perspective and Japan’s friendship relations with Türkiye, Japan has decided to provide this emergency assistance to Türkiye to meet its humanitarian needs.”

Qatar

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar noted that coordination with Türkiye began from the first moment of the earthquakes with their epicentre in Kahramanmaraş.

At a press conference in the capital Doha, the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Majed bin Mohammad Al Ansari said, “Coordination between Türkiye and Qatar began from the very first moment of the devastating earthquake.”

Noting that search and rescue teams would be dispatched to quake-stricken areas, Ansari stated that Qatar would continue its support in accordance with the priorities that will be set by developments in affected areas.

Ansari urged the world’s countries and international organisations to play a role in mitigating the impact of this devastating earthquake and noted that 10,000 mobile homes were also provided to earthquake victims.

Ansari highlighted that in line with the instructions of Qatar Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the first plane containing the search and rescue team and aid supplies took off yesterday evening.

Kazakhstan

Kazakhs share the slogan “We are together” alongside Kazakh-Turkish flags on social media to demonstrate their solidarity with the Turkish people.

Kazakhstan’s heart beats as one with Türkiye’s.

First, President Kassym-Jomart K. Tokayev of Kazakhstan conveyed a condolence message to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the brotherly Turkish people. Later, Tokayev called President Erdoğan and notified him that Kazakhstan was ready to provide aid.

In the early hours of the morning, a transport aircraft carrying special vehicles and a search and rescue team of 41 staff departed Kazakhstan for Gaziantep.

First Vice-Minister of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan Ibragim Kulshimbayev noted that the team consisted of rescue personnel with international experience, healthcare professionals, and three specially trained dogs.

On their social media pages, Kazakh people display the Turkish flag and express their wishes for a speedy recovery, and they share posts with Kazakh-Turkish flags with the slogan “We are together”.

Minister of Health of Kazakhstan Azhar Giniyat stated in her “We are together” post that they are ready to dispatch medical teams to the quake-stricken regions in Türkiye.

Kenya

Minister of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs of Kenya Alfred Mutua drew attention to the magnitude of the earthquake and stressed that it was one of the most severe earthquakes in the region.

Mutua conveyed his condolences to Türkiye and stated that they stand in solidarity with the Turkish people.

Kyrgyzstan

It was announced that the Kyrgyzstan Ayıl Bank launched a single deposit account to raise funds for the victims of the devastating earthquakes in Türkiye.

According to the statement, the officials and staff of the Office of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic donated their one-day earnings to the aid campaign organised for earthquake victims in Türkiye.

Facebook users in the country also added the Turkish flag to their profile pictures, shared their messages of support and condolences, and expressed their solidarity with Türkiye.

Head of Presidential Press Service Daiyrbek Orunbekov said in a Facebook post that they are mourning with the Turkish people.

Noting that Kyrgyzstan dispatched a search and rescue team to the region right after the earthquake in Türkiye, Orunbekov said, “We, the Kyrgyz people, are deeply saddened. We convey our condolences to our Turkish brothers and sisters.”

Colombia

President Gustavo Petro of Colombia also stated in his post on his social media account that they stood in solidarity with the people of Türkiye and Syria and noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs had contacted the relevant authorities for aid.

Republic of the Congo

President of the Republic of the Congo Denis Sassou N’Guesso expressed his deep sadness over the earthquake and stated that both his government and the people of Congo stand in solidarity with the Turkish people.

Kosovo

President Vjosa Osmani of Kosovo declared a one-day national mourning in the country the next day due to the 7.7 and 7.6 magnitude earthquakes that were centred in Kahramanmaraş and affected ten provinces.

In a post she shared on her social media account, Osmani said, “In the face of such tragedies, we must stand by those who need support. The pain of the Turkish and Syrian people is ours too. Therefore, based on constitutional and legal powers, as a sign of state and citizen respect, I have declared Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2023, a State Mourning Day in the Republic of Kosovo.”

Expressing that she stands in full solidarity with Türkiye, Osmani stated that Kosovo would continue to provide the necessary support.

The government of Kosovo previously sent a unit of 30 soldiers from the Kosovo Security Force Unit to participate in search and rescue efforts in Türkiye, and they arrived last night.

Kuwait

Crown Prince Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah of Kuwait called President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to express his speedy recovery wishes for the Kahramanmaraş-centred earthquakes. Crown Prince al-Sabah of Kuwait wished Allah’s mercy upon those who lost their lives and a speedy recovery for the injured.

According to the information provided by the Kuwait news agency Kuna, a similar air bridge will be built for the relief supplies and medical teams to be transported to Türkiye in order to help alleviate the effects of the earthquake upon the instruction of the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmed al-Jaber al-Sabah.

Liberia

President George Manneh Weah of Liberia expressed his deep sorrow over the earthquakes.

Noting that Türkiye has been a true friend and partner in Liberia’s development initiative and that it was very saddening to see them grapple with such a natural disaster, Weah said, “Liberia will provide whatever assistance is deemed necessary for the two nations to stand together during this difficult time.”

Libya

Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbeibeh of Libya conveyed to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan his condolences for the Kahramanmaraş-centred earthquakes.

In addition to his condolences for those who lost their lives, Dbeibeh also wished the injured a speedy recovery.

Lebanon

In his press release, Lebanese Minister of Environment Nasser Yassin said that earthquakes in Türkiye were discussed at the Council of Ministers and that they would send a team of 72 people to Türkiye to support search and rescue efforts.

Malta

Ian Borg, Minister for Foreign Affairs, EU Affairs and Trade of Malta, shared a post on Twitter about the departure of the search and rescue team of the Ministry for Home Affairs, Security, Reforms and Equality (MHSR) from Malta Airport.

Borg said, “Following the quick decision by the MHSR to deploy an urban SAR team to Türkiye, I have now directed that we provide financial support through the Turkish Red Crescent to assist in initial disaster response efforts on the ground. Malta is committed to showing solidarity with countries in moments of need.”

It has been reported that the Malta search and rescue team will arrive in Istanbul at 2:00 Turkish local time tonight with the scheduled flight of Turkish Airlines. From there, they will be dispatched to the earthquake-affected areas under the coordination of the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD).

Mexico

Mexico sent a search and rescue team of 145 people to Türkiye on the instruction of President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.

In his statement at the airport, Director General for Europe of the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs Bernardo Aguilar Calvo said, “We are about to board a Mexican Air Forces plane, with 93 personnel from the Ministry of Defence, 37 from the Naval Forces, 15 from the Red Cross personnel, in order to help our brothers and sisters in Türkiye. Our purpose is to save the highest number of people alive. We hope to arrive in Türkiye soon.”

Türkiye’s Ambassador to Mexico, İlhan Kemal Tuğ, stated that Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Mexico Marcelo Ebrard sent him a message and said, “Based on bilateral ties, Türkiye and Mexico have long been two important strategic partners. Today, we can see that this collaboration has reached a higher level. I appreciate the support and solidarity of President Lopez Obrador of Mexico and Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Mexico Marcelo Ebrard in the face of this tough circumstance that our country goes through.”

Stating that a search and rescue team will be deployed to Türkiye on the instructions of President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador in a post on Twitter, Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Mexico Ebrard said, “The Mexican Air Forces plane will take off in a few hours to head to Türkiye.”


 

Egypt

Following the Kahramanmaraş-centred earthquakes, President Abdel Fattah es-Sisi of Egypt called President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and extended his “speedy recovery” wishes. Calling President Erdoğan due to the earthquakes, President Sisi of Egypt wished Allah’s mercy upon those who lost their lives and a speedy recovery for the injured.

According to the statement by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu held a telephone conversation. During the conversation, Shoukry stated that Egypt decided to provide immediate humanitarian aid to Türkiye.

Moldova

President Maia Sandu of Moldova stated that a search and rescue team was sent to Türkiye.

Sandu made statements on her social media account regarding the earthquakes that struck Türkiye yesterday.

Stating that thousands of lives were lost as a result of the earthquakes, and many buildings and infrastructure were damaged, Sandu said that the search and rescue team consisting of 55 personnel and 12 vehicles of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations of the Moldovan Ministry of Internal Affairs was sent to Türkiye.

Sandu said, “My condolences go out to the families affected by this disaster, and I wish strength, courage and hope to all who are fighting to save people from the grip of the disaster”.

The Turkish Embassy to Chisinau also expressed gratitude to the Moldovan government for its support.

Mozambique

President Filipe Nyusi of Mozambique issued a message of condolence for the victims of the earthquakes.

Conveying his condolences to Türkiye and Syria on behalf of the Republic of Mozambique and its people, Nyusi said, “I want to express that we are in solidarity”.

Mauritania

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mauritania said, “We express our condolences to the brotherly Republic of Türkiye and its people for this great tragedy. The government of Mauritania shares the pain of those who lost their lives in the earthquake, the injured and the suffered brotherly Turkish people. We wish Allah’s mercy upon those who died and a speedy recovery to the injured”.

Nigeria

Muslims in Nigeria prayed for those who were killed or injured as a result of the earthquakes.

A support event for Türkiye was organised under the guidance of the newspaper Muslim News Nigeria, which runs in Lagos, the country’s most populous city.

During the event, they recited the Qur’an and prayed for those who lost their lives in earthquakes in Türkiye.

The newspaper editor, Rasheed Abubakar, wished Allah’s mercy upon those who died in the earthquake and a speedy recovery to the injured.

Noting that they launched an aid campaign for earthquake survivors in Türkiye, Abubakar said, “We will always stand by Türkiye. We will organise a special prayer event for Türkiye on Friday, and we will not forget to pray for Türkiye in the Fiqh event we will organise on Saturday”.

Uzbekistan

After the Kahramanmaraş-centred earthquakes, Uzbeks rushed to the Turkish Embassy in Tashkent and left flowers to express their solidarity with the Turkish people.

Upon the initiative of the Head of the Religious Administration and Chief Mufti Nuriddin Kholiknazarov, the Qur’an was recited in all mosques and prayers were said for those who lost their lives in the earthquakes in Türkiye, also wishing the injured a speedy recovery.

People from Uzbekistan also put the Turkish flag on their profile photos on social media accounts, expressing their “condolences” and “speedy recovery” wishes, and others shared the slogan “We are together”, which they added to the photographs with Turkish-Uzbek flags.

Some Uzbek citizens banded together and launched an aid campaign to assist those affected by the quake.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Bahtiyar Saidov expressed profound sadness at the news of the devastating earthquake in Türkiye on his social media account, saying, “I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of those who perished in the earthquake. During these trying times for the Turkish people, we stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters.”

Poland

Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki of Poland stated that Polish miners would also deploy to Türkiye in response to the earthquakes.

Morawiecki noted on his Twitter account that the earthquake in Türkiye was tragic.

Yesterday, Poland decided to deploy 76 professional firefighters and eight search-and-rescue dogs to Türkiye in support of the country.

The said team arrived in Türkiye with 20 tonnes of equipment. According to information provided by Polish officials, this team is currently engaged in rescue efforts in Adıyaman.

Chief Commandant of the State Fire Service of Poland, Andrzej Bartkowiak, also shared a post on social media, stating, “After settling, our team conducted two reconnaissance inspections. The site where three people could be buried beneath the rubble has been determined. Then, two groups of our rescuers started taking action.”

Russia

MMK, one of the major metallurgical companies in Russia, has been providing aid to citizens in earthquake-affected regions, particularly in Hatay.

In a written statement, MMK, which also operates in Türkiye, noted that the company supplied housing, food, hot water, and medical assistance to its employees and residents hit by the earthquake.

Noting that the company has been working diligently to aid residents in earthquake-affected areas, particularly in Hatay, it was stated that about 10,000 individuals were offered hot meals.

In the statement, it was said that around 1,000 individuals were housed and that the MMK-owned factory’s medical room was used to treat people.

It was emphasised that, at the request of the regional authorities, various heavy equipment were delivered to the search and rescue teams and that all required support would continue to be provided.

Somalia

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of Somalia called President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to extend his wishes for a speedy recovery from the earthquake.

During the phone conversation with President Erdoğan, President Mohamud of Somalia extended his condolences to the victims and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

Sudan

In his condolence telegram to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council of Sudan and Commander of the Armed Forces, Abdul Fattah Al-Burhann, offered the condolences of the Sudanese government and people.

Al-Burhann expressed their solidarity with Türkiye and wished Allah’s mercy upon those who perished in the earthquake and a speedy recovery for those injured.

Saudi Arabia

King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia sent President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan a condolence message for those who perished in the earthquakes.

According to the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, King Salman said in his message, “We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in the earthquake and to the people of Türkiye.”

Wishing Allah’s mercy on those who lost their lives and a speedy recovery for those injured, the King of Saudi Arabia added, “We reiterate that we stand by you and support you during this tragic event.”

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia also sent a message of condolence to President Erdoğan.

Crown Prince Bin Salman reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s solidarity with Türkiye, wishing for the safe recovery of those trapped under the rubble and a speedy recovery for the injured.

Crown Prince Bin Salman of Saudi Arabia also called President Erdoğan yesterday and extended his speedy recovery wishes.

Tunisia

According to a statement issued by the Presidency of Tunisia, President Kays Said ordered the delivery of emergency aid to Türkiye and Syria.

The Tunisian Red Crescent released a written statement, saying, “Within the next few hours, aircraft prepared as part of the campaign we launched to collect aid to be sent by emergency relief aircraft, on the instructions of President Kays Said, will depart for the earthquake-affected areas.”

In the statement, it was stated that voluntary health professionals had applied to the Red Crescent centres throughout Tunisia as part of the ongoing relief campaign, saying:

“Our work continues to coordinate the associations that wish to assist the people of Türkiye and Syria and to transport the voluntary health professionals, who have applied to our centres, to the region.”

Uganda

President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda shared a post on social media, stating, “I am deeply saddened by the deaths, injuries and loss of property in Türkiye and Syria in the aftermath of a devastating earthquake. My thoughts and prayers, and those of all Ugandans, are with the families who have lost their loved ones. May their souls rest in eternal peace.”

Ukraine

President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine called President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and conveyed his wishes for a speedy recovery following the Kahramanmaraş-centred earthquakes. President Zelensky of Ukraine offered his condolences for the losses and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

Regarding the Kahramanmaraş-centred earthquakes, First Lady Olena Zelenska of Ukraine also sent First Lady Emine Erdoğan of Türkiye the message, “We are ready to assist.”

Zelenska expressed her sadness for the Kahramanmaraş-centred earthquakes on her Twitter account.

In the social media post in which she mentioned First Lady Erdoğan, Zelenska stated:

“Despite our own tragedy, our thoughts and prayers are with Türkiye today. Deaths and suffering of thousands of people — indescribable pain. Emine Erdoğan, we are here for you and ready to help in any way possible. My condolences to those affected by the tragedy. Ukraine is with you.”

Oman

Following the Kahramanmaraş-centred earthquakes, Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said of Oman called President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and wished the country a speedy recovery. Sultan Tariq of Oman offered his condolences for the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

Jordan

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Jordan posted a statement on Twitter, announcing that King Abdullah II of Jordan has ordered the delivery of aid to assist rescue efforts in two brotherly countries, Türkiye and Syria.

Venezuela

President Nicolás Maduro of Venezuela expressed solidarity with the brotherly people of Türkiye and Syria in a post he shared on Twitter, stating, “We extend our condolences to the families of the victims, as well as the Turkish and Syrian people.”
