“We work to strengthen our cooperation with Poland as two NATO allies”

Holding a joint press conference with President Nawrocki of Poland, President Erdoğan said: “We work to strengthen our cooperation with Poland as two NATO allies that have an indispensable place in Europe’s security and defense architecture.”

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and President Karol Nawrocki of Poland held a joint press conference following their tête-à-tête and the meeting between delegations at the Presidential Complex.

“Drawing strength from our long-standing history with Poland dating back more than six centuries, we are enhancing our cooperation in every area with Poland as two allies and strategic partners. During today’s discussions, we reaffirmed our determination in this direction and reviewed our future joint steps”, President Erdoğan stated.

“We have undertaken significant partnerships in defense projects”

Describing the two countries’ new target in bilateral trade volume as $15 billion, President Erdoğan said: “Poland is among the countries our contracting companies are most active in with projects collectively worth nearly $9 billion. We hope the number of such projects will further increase. Another area that has potential with Poland is transport. An important platform in this regard is the Three Seas Initiative, of which Türkiye has become a strategic partner with Poland’s support. Our bilateral cooperation in defense industry is one of the top items on our agenda. As you also know, we have already undertaken significant partnerships in this area, including UAVs and other defense projects. We work to strengthen our cooperation as two NATO allies that have an indispensable place in Europe’s security and defense architecture.”

“We have the will to advance our cooperation with the EU on the basis of mutual benefit and respect”

Highlighting that the Türkiye-EU relations as well as the latest regional and global developments were among the topics addressed during today’s meeting, President Erdoğan went on to say: “As we stress on every occasion, we have the will to advance our cooperation with the EU on the basis of mutual benefit and respect. I would like to take this opportunity to extend our gratitude to Poland for its support for our EU membership process. I expect this support to increasingly continue.”

Touching upon the upcoming NATO Summit in Ankara, President Erdoğan further stressed: “Strengthening the Alliance’s European pillar and consolidating its deterrence constitute our shared priority as part of the NATO Summit we will hold in Ankara on July 7-8. At this point, we consider it important that the European allies take on greater responsibility and the transatlantic bond be reinforced. During our talks, we also had an in-depth review of the latest situation in the Russia-Ukraine war as well as the recent developments relating to Iran. We drew attention to the need for peace in both issues. On the other hand, foremost among the issues that should never be overshadowed by these is the process leading up to peace in Palestine and the Middle East. We expect Poland, one of the countries recognizing the State of Palestine, to maintain its support for the two-state solution.”
