Türkiye intensifies shuttle diplomacy for peace

President Erdoğan, who has held face-to-face meetings and phone calls with more than 20 leaders since the war between Ukraine and Russia began, will receive President Andrzej Duda of Poland in Ankara today.

Türkiye, which has maintained intense diplomatic contacts since the Ukraine-Russia war began on February 24, is stepping up its efforts to achieve a ceasefire and bring the war to an end.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is conducting active diplomacy traffic to restore peace in the region after Russia's attack on Ukraine that began on February 24.

President Erdoğan met with Zelensky three times, and Putin once

After chairing the security summit attended by several ministers and staff at the Presidential Complex, following the attack on Ukrainian territory launched by the Russian army in the morning of February 24, President Erdoğan spoke by phone with President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine. On February 26 and March 4, President Erdoğan spoke by phone with Zelensky and stated that they were making efforts to secure a ceasefire.

On March 6, President Erdoğan spoke by phone with President Vladimir Putin of Russia, the opposing party of the war. Noting that an immediate general ceasefire would not only relieve humanitarian concerns in the region but also provide an opportunity to seek a political solution, President Erdoğan reiterated his call to “pave the way for peace together."

He met with more than 20 leaders and representatives from international organisations

President Erdoğan spoke by phone with more than 20 world leaders and representatives from international organisations to ensure a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia.

President Erdoğan also spoke by phone with President Joe Biden of the US, President Emmanuel Macron of France, President İlham Aliyev of Azerbaijan, President Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus, Prime Minister Mark Rutte of the Netherlands, President Alexander Van der Bellen of Austria, Prime Minister Boris Johnson of the United Kingdom, President Gitanas Nauseda of Lithuania, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau of Canada, President Aleksandar Vucic of Serbia, President Maia Sandu of Moldova, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and President of the European Council Charles Michel.

Face-to-face meetings with 11 leaders at Antalya Diplomacy Forum

On March 10, Türkiye convened the foreign ministers of both sides of the war as part of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum and achieved significant diplomatic success. Steps to end the war were discussed in a meeting attended by Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.

As part of the Forum, President Erdoğan met with 11 leaders, including NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg.

UN Secretary-General expressed gratitude for "diplomatic efforts"

President Erdoğan discussed regional and international developments, particularly the Ukraine-Russia war, with United Nations (UN) Secretary-General António Guterres, with whom he had a phone call on March 13.

President Erdoğan remarked that they were working tirelessly to establish a ceasefire in the Ukraine-Russia war and to re-establish peace, as well as on humanitarian aid and evacuations.

UN Secretary-General Guterres thanked President Erdoğan for his attempts to mediate between Ukraine and Russia, as well as for his diplomatic efforts and for his activities contributing to peace.

Duda is the fifth leader visiting Türkiye in the last eight days

Last week, President Erdoğan received President Isaac Herzog of Israel, President İlham Aliyev of Azerbaijan, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis of Greece, and Chancellor Olaf Scholz of the Federal Republic of Germany on Monday, March 14 in Türkiye, where they addressed the Ukraine-Russia war. Today in Ankara, President Erdoğan will meet with President Andrzej Duda of Poland to evaluate the current situation in the region.

Çavuşoğlu will hold meetings in Russia and Ukraine, and Akar will hold meetings in Belgium

Türkiye, which has been actively seeking peace since the beginning of the war, has intensified its shuttle diplomacy. Minister of Foreign Affairs Çavuşoğlu will meet with his Russian counterpart today and Ukrainian counterpart tomorrow to address the recent developments.

Minister of National Defence Hulusi Akar is attending an extraordinary meeting of NATO defence ministers today in Brussels, Belgium's capital, to evaluate the developments following Russia's attack on Ukraine. Within the course of the meeting, Akar will hold bilateral meetings with some of his counterparts.

NATO Leaders' Summit convenes

Leaders of the NATO countries will meet in Brussels next week for an extraordinary meeting to evaluate the developments following Russia's attack on Ukraine. NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg announced that an extraordinary NATO Leaders' Summit would be held on March 24 at NATO headquarters in Brussels. President Erdoğan is also expected to attend the summit.
