A joint declaration on the issues agreed upon by President Erdoğan and President Sánchez of the Government of Spain was issued at the 7th Türkiye-Spain Intergovernmental Summit in Ankara.
The declaration stated the following:
-The determination to maintain peace and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean remains unwavering.
-Türkiye and Spain have committed to supporting all efforts to revive the Middle East Peace Process and facilitate the resumption of peace negotiations at the soonest time possible.
-In accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2585, there is an urgent need to address the current humanitarian situation in Syria.
-It is reiterated that continuous dialogue in the areas of trade and investment would be maintained in order to determine common approaches to Türkiye-Spain economic relations.
-Türkiye and Spain have benefited from cordial relations that are essential to both countries.
-Bilateral relations, political dialogue, defence and security collaboration, work and employment, trade, investments, scientific cooperation, cultural exchange, and mutual support in international organisations, as well as co-sponsorship of the Alliance of Civilizations (AoC), a leading joint global initiative at the United Nations, are all areas in which the two countries collaborate.
-Türkiye and Spain are NATO allies who have made major contributions to the security, prosperity, and stability of Europe and the Euro-Atlantic area.
-The Patriot missiles deployed in Türkiye embodies the fundamental principle of indivisibility of security on allied territories.
-The summit was held during an extraordinary period marked by the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change, biodiversity loss, desertification, migratory surges resulting from regional and global conflicts, and natural disasters that prompted immediate humanitarian assistance.
The following points were highlighted in the Joint Declaration:
- Strengthening the existing cooperation in education
- The significance of air defence support
- Fight against climate change
- Assisting the Libyan political process
- Peace and stability in Afghanistan
- Cooperation in migration management
- Consensus on organising high-level meetings on a regular basis
