The Turkish delegation, which visited the US under the coordination of the Presidency's Directorate of Communications and the Turkish Exporters' Assembly, will hold various meetings in order to achieve the trade volume goal of $100 billion between Türkiye and the US.
Commercial Diplomacy Events, organised in the US under the coordination of the Directorate of Communications and the Turkish Exporters' Assembly (TIM), have begun in order to achieve the trade volume goal of $100 billion between Türkiye and the US.
A Turkish delegation comprised of senior officials, members of parliament, and businesspeople visited the US for various meetings. The delegation, which will hold talks on commercial diplomacy and bilateral economic relations in Washington and New York, held a press conference at the Turkish Embassy in Washington.
President of the Investment Office of the Turkish Presidency Dağlıoğlu, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Industry, Trade, Energy, Natural Resources, Information and Technology and Justice and Development (AK) Party Konya Deputy Ziya Altunyaldız, Deputy Director of the Presidency’s Directorate of Communications Çağatay Özdemir, TIM Deputy Chairman Başaran Bayrak, TIM Brand Council Vice-Chairman Süleyman Orakçıoğlu, TOBB Vice President Ayhan Zeytinoğlu and other businesspeople were among the participants of the meeting.
"Türkiye serves as a safe harbour in its region"
Dağlıoğlu stated during the meeting that they believed investments would account for a sizable portion of the trade volume goal of $100 billion between Türkiye and the United States.
Dağlıoğlu said that American companies have been operating in Türkiye for many years, adding that the country has over 2,000 American companies and a foreign direct investment inflow of over 14 billion dollars.
Dağlıoğlu added: "Türkiye is a significant target country for foreign direct investments, not just for US companies, but for businesses from all over the world, particularly European and Asian firms."
Dağlıoğlu stressed Türkiye's resilient and rapid growth, saying that the country has an investment climate that is reforming and developing pro-business policies and that it offers geographical access to global markets for being located at the crossroads of Asia, Africa, and Europe, as well as having a skilled workforce.
Dağlıoğlu highlighted that Türkiye's "mediating" role, which was assumed at a period of rising geopolitical concerns, reflected on the business world as well, adding that Türkiye serves as a "safe harbour" in its region.
Regarding international companies that have suspended their operations in Russia due to the Russia-Ukraine war or seek a new address in the region after exiting the Russian market, Dağlıoğlu said that Türkiye continues its efforts to improve its investment climate based on global developments and in line with trends in specific countries.
"All conditions are favourable for achieving the goal of $100 billion in trade volume"
Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Industry, Trade, Energy, Natural Resources, Information and Technology Altunyaldız stated that, given the current global conjuncture, all conditions are favourable for Türkiye and the United States to achieve the goal of $100 billion in trade volume.
Altunyaldız stressed that the supply chain experienced significant shifts and that this was reflected in Türkiye's export performance in 2021 when the country's exports reached a record high of $225 billion.
Altunyaldız stated that logistics and sectoral initiatives are being undertaken in collaboration with the United States, adding that they aim to expand the current trade volume in traditional sectors and progress via the integration of new industries.
Altunyaldız discussed new opportunities for Türkiye in line with the US’ goals for transition to a green economy and stressed that with Türkiye's ratification of the Paris Agreement, a new era of industrialisation, production, and trade has begun.
Altunyaldız said, "We think that we have entered a new era and an area of opportunity with the US, particularly with the reduction of emission volume, green investments and new entities here."
TIM Deputy Chairman Başaran Bayrak stated that when the US is striving to diversify its supply, he believes that Türkiye’s high level of competitiveness would enable it to grow its share of exports and meet its trade goal of $100 billion with the US.
TOBB Vice President Ayhan Zeytinoğlu emphasised the importance of the US market for Turkish exports and stated that he would convey Türkiye's arguments to its counterparts.
Vice-Chairman of TIM Brand Council Süleyman Orakçıoğlu said that the momentum achieved in 2021 would continue in Türkiye's exports to the US.
Visit likely to have a positive impact on the dynamics of commercial relations between Türkiye and the US
The delegation, which will meet with Turkish and American businesspeople, will also pay visits to the US Departments of State and Commerce, as well as the US Chamber of Commerce.
The delegation will also meet with members of the American and international press at the Atlantic Council, a think-tank, to discuss boosting trade links between the US and Türkiye.
Panels and commercial diplomacy workshops will be organised as part of the program to boost Türkiye’s position in transatlantic exports. Türkevi Centre in New York will host panels titled "Joining Forces for Prosperity: Türkiye-The US Relations" and "Turkish- American Efforts for New Horizons: Trade Goal of $100 Billion."
The four-day program, co-organised by the Directorate of Communications and TIM, is expected to have a positive impact on the dynamics of commercial relations between Türkiye and the US.
