The 'Shusha Declaration on Allied Relations between the Republic of Türkiye and the Republic of Azerbaijan,' signed on June 15, 2021, between Türkiye and Azerbaijan, has been promulgated in today's issue of the Official Gazette after being ratified by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

In the Declaration, the parties expressed satisfaction with the level of strategically developing relations between the two countries while emphasising the significance of sustained political dialogue at all levels and reciprocal visits at the highest level.

The Declaration also highlighted that if, in the opinion of one of the parties, there is a threat or an act of aggression from a third state or states against their independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, the inviolability or security of their internationally recognised borders, the parties will hold joint consultations and, in order to eliminate this threat or acts of aggression, carry out initiatives in accordance with the purposes and principles of the United Nations (UN) Charter.

Indicating that after the parties determine through urgent discussions the volume and form of possible assistance, a decision will be made to secure defence needs for the adoption of joint measures, the Declaration stipulated that coordinated activities of power-wielding and administrative agencies of the Armed Forces will be ensured.

In the Declaration, it was stated that joint meetings of the security councils on national security issues of the parties will be held on a regular basis, discussing issues of national defence, regional and international security that may affect the interests of the parties, and that the parties will continue to make joint efforts aimed at reorganising and modernising the armed forces of the two fraternal countries in accordance with modern requirements.
