“Second Home: Turkey" documentary telling about the new lives the Syrians have built in Turkey was prepared with the support of the Directorate of Communications.

"Second Home: Turkey" documentary, which aims to eliminate the disinformation regarding the Syrian refugees around the world and in Turkish public opinion, invites viewers to think about social harmonization.

The Syrians, who were displaced from their homeland by an extraordinary wave of migration under the gloomy shadow of the war, are among the foremost figures of fragile communities at high risk of being targeted for information pollution, hate speech and propaganda activities.

The Directorate of Communications supported the "Second Home: Turkey" documentary project, with the aim of eliminating the information pollution in national and international public opinion about the Syrian refugees and giving inspiration to a meaningful dialogue regarding the lives of refugees, their stories and the bond they established with Turkey.

On his Twitter account, Communications Director Prof. Fahrettin Altun shared a post concerning the ‘Second Home: Turkey’ documentary and said: “Syrian refugees make valuable contributions to communities across Turkey. The Directorate of Communications celebrates the Syrians who rebuilt their lives and made a difference in Turkey.”

The mini documentary meets the audience on a YouTube channel called Lives in Turkey in Turkish, English, French and German, focusing on 6 Syrians from different social classes, their adaption and the lives they have built in Turkey. “Second Home: Turkey” tells about the real stories of a Syrian mosaic artist, a teacher, a telephone repairman, a café owner and an engineer, going beyond cliché discourses, generalizations and exclusive reflexes; and sheds light on the real persons’ stories behind them and invites the viewers to contemplate on the concept of ‘home’ once again.

The documentary was designed following a detailed media content scan about refugees and in the light of the efforts by non-governmental organizations and academicians. Field research team held interviews and compiled them diligently in Istanbul, Adana, Hatay, Gaziantep and Kilis and each refugee has found space and means to tell about their stories.

The documentary aims to contribute to undermining all kinds of discourses offending neighbours who consider Turkey their second home and destroying social links.
