President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spoke by phone with President Hassan Rouhani of Iran.
Steps aimed at strengthening Turkey-Iran relations and regional developments were discussed during the meeting.
Expressing his deep sadness over the passing of Iranian scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh as a result of a heinous assassination, President Erdoğan extended his condolences to the brotherly Iranian people and the family of the deceased.
Drawing attention to the timing of the assassination, President Erdoğan stated that although the attack targeted the peace and tranquillity in the region, he believed that the hopes of dark circles seeking to drag the region into instability would be dashed once again.
Underscoring that a new period had now begun regarding the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, President Erdoğan said it was of paramount importance that any kind of act which would overshadow Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty be avoided diligently, and that the establishment of a lasting peace and stability would open up new windows of opportunity, which he underscored would be of benefit to all the countries in the region, including Armenia.
