President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met with Governor-General of New Zealand, Cindy Kiro, at the Presidential Complex.
At the meeting, Türkiye–New Zealand bilateral relations, as well as regional and global issues, were discussed.
Expressing that this visit is considered highly significant, coinciding with the 111th anniversary of the Çanakkale Land Battles, which holds an exceptional place in the collective memory of both Türkiye and New Zealand, President Erdoğan noted that the aim is to further develop relations with New Zealand, particularly in trade, defence industry, and transportation.
Voicing that Türkiye welcomes New Zealand’s principled stance in the fight against Islamophobia, and that their backing of the Palestinian cause and the two-state solution, under the UN and in bilateral engagements, is praiseworthy, President Erdoğan added that New Zealand’s recognition of the State of Palestine would contribute to the solution.
President Erdoğan also wished New Zealand success in hosting the Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting next year.
Pointing out that Türkiye is among the leading countries in Europe that have achieved rapid progress in green transformation for environmental protection and combating climate change, President Erdoğan said the “UN Climate Change Conference COP31” will be hosted by Türkiye in Antalya this November and invited Kiro to the summit.
