President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who is in New York for the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, met with investors during the Türkiye Investment Conference held in sectoral roundtable format by the Türkiye-U.S. Business Council at the Turkish House.
“Our economic programme has proven itself”
Making a speech at the conference, President Erdoğan underscored that recent political tensions, crises in supply chains and increasing protective measures in trade and investments have pushed global economy for a deep transformation, and said: “We are updating our political means in order for the public and our business world to adapt themselves to this transformation. The economic programme we have been implementing has proven itself, increased our economy’s resistance to shocks and decreased our domestic and foreign fragilities to a great extent. We are advancing with firm steps towards price stability, which is our primary goal.”
“100-billion-dollar trade volume with the U.S. continues to be our common goal”
Stating that the trade volume with the U.S. is growing bigger each passing year, President Erdoğan noted: “We surpassed 35 billion dollars last year. America ranks second among the countries to which we export the most, and fifth among the ones from which we import the most. The 100-billion-dollar trade volume goal, which we set with my treasured friend Mr. Trump in 2019, continues to be our common goal. In this sense, we have increased supports regarding exports with the U.S. Such programs as sectoral visits and trade delegations have also gained momentum. I wholeheartedly believe that we will achieve our 100-billion-dollar goal with the support of our private sector and new investment moves. Obviously at this point, we witness America’s trade and economic policies’ direct and indirect reflections on Türkiye.”
“We see energy and defence industry as primary areas of cooperation with the U.S.”
Stressing that they are determined to efficiently use bilateral mechanisms concerning all the matters that will adversely affect Türkiye in the upcoming period, President Erdoğan went on to say: “We hope that the reciprocal additional tariffs will not slow down the momentum gained in trade. We act in a very sensitive manner on this issue. We see energy and defence industry as primary areas of cooperation with the U.S. Our defense industry cooperation should immediately be freed from the obstacles and limitations in line with the spirit of alliance.”
“Our strong logistical infrastructure and modern ports, make Türkiye a strategic hub for investors”
Also drawing attention to Türkiye’s Medium Term Program, which has been recently announced, President Erdoğan said that they aim to increase Türkiye’s exports to 300 billion dollars and surpass 70 billion dollars in tourism incomes, and continued as follows: “We continue to take the steps that consolidate a transparent, competitive and safe market environment, which will render Türkiye more appealing to investors. We are launching a deep-rooted change in our economy with the firm steps we have been taking in the areas of green and digital transformation in industry. Our strong logistical infrastructure, modern ports, as well as advanced road and railroad networks make Türkiye a strategic hub for investors. Our goal is to bring in sustainable, climate-friendly and knowledge intensive investments, which create high added value and support digital transformation, to our country.”
