President Erdoğan at Hagia Sophia Mosque

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made examinations at the Hagia Sophia Mosque, which will reopen for worship with Friday prayers tomorrow after 86 years.

Arriving in Istanbul after the Supreme Military Council (YAŞ) held at the Presidential Complex, President Erdoğan came to the Hagia Sophia Mosque from Atatürk Airport.

Erdoğan stayed for about an hour at the Hagia Sophia Mosque where he also examined four days ago.

Erdoğan, who was briefed by Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy and the Governor of Istanbul Ali Yerlikaya about the preparations for the opening tomorrow, was accompanied by First Lady Emine Erdoğan, Vice President Fuat Oktay, Director of Communications Fahrettin Altun, Presidential Spokesperson İbrahim Kalın, AK Party Spokesperson Ömer Çelik and President of Religious Affairs Prof. Ali Erbaş.

Erdoğan and his accompanying delegation went to the entrance of the Hagia Sophia Mosque and unveiled the nameplate that said “The Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque”.

Erdoğan left the Hagia Sophia Mosque after his examinations.
