Panel on Türkiye-UK Relations

Panel on Türkiye-UK Relations

Director of Communications Altun: "Türkiye is open to any and all forms of cooperation with the United Kingdom on regional and global issues, Palestine in particular."

Our Presidency organised a "Panel on Türkiye-United Kingdom Relations" at the Embassy of Türkiye in London.

A huge number of academics, think tank representatives, journalists, and businesspeople attended the panel, which discussed the shifting dynamics of Türkiye's post-Brexit relations with the United Kingdom as well as the two nations' relations.

Presidency's Director of Communications Fahrettin Altun also addressed the participants via video message at the opening of the panel.

Director of Communications Altun stated that the globe is in a dark vortex and faces various challenges and that regional and global crises and wars are common throughout this period.

Director of Communications Altun pointed to the recent Ukraine-Russia war as one of these crises, saying, "From the very beginning, Türkiye has repeatedly called for restraint. Adopting the tenet that peace has no losers, we stated that conflicts should be settled through negotiations rather than war. The Ukraine-Russia war has also had global consequences, such as the food crisis. Thanks to the grain corridor agreement, we successfully averted a global food crisis."

Altun pointed out that another issue with global implications was Israel's attacks on Palestine.

Stating that the Israeli persecution, which has been going on for years, has reached a new stage today, Director of Communications Altun said that Israel used hunger as a weapon in its six-month-long attacks and the region lacked sufficient humanitarian assistance

Stating that the challenges experienced by Muslims, including racism, discrimination, and Islamophobia, were escalating with each passing day, alongside other humanitarian disasters, Director of Communications Altun said:

"The surge in racism and xenophobia, particularly in Western countries in recent years, has led to a rising pattern of states becoming more isolated.

The increase in global protectionism has also been preventing thousands of oppressed and vulnerable individuals from receiving the most basic humanitarian aid.

As Türkiye, we strongly oppose all forms of racism and discrimination.

Our country has been among the most successful in overcoming the refugee crisis that the entire world must confront.

A lasting solution to the refugee problem can only be achieved through the establishment of a system that promotes the fair distribution of global prosperity."

"Defending Palestinians and truth is, in essence, defending human dignity"

Referring to the issue of disinformation as the catalyst of all these problems, Director of Communications Altun stated that the most dangerous epidemic that corrupts institutions and societies, which has become the plague of the age, is disinformation.

Underscoring that they deem disinformation both a national and global problem, Director of Communications Altun said. "Hence, we insist on revealing any disinformation activities in regional conflicts. We are fighting Israel's systematic disinformation campaigns to conceal its brutal attacks through our relevant institutions and organisations. Because Israel is slaughtering both Palestinians and the truth itself. Defending Palestinians and truth is, in essence, defending human dignity.

Türkiye is open to any and all forms of cooperation with the United Kingdom on regional and global issues, Palestine in particular."

Century of Türkiye Exhibit in London

The "Century of Türkiye" Exhibit was organised at the Yunus Emre Institute by our Directorate, which showcased Türkiye's natural and historical beauty.

In addition, an iftar event is to be held in Trafalgar Square of London as part of the Ramadan Tent Project, which has been hosted annually in the UK since 2011.
