Head of Communications Duran’s statement on jet crash carrying Libya’s Chief of General Staff Al-Haddad

The Presidency's Head of Communications Burhanettin Duran issued a statement regarding the crash of the private jet carrying Libya’s Chief of General Staff Gen. Mohamed Ali Ahmed Al Haddad, four members of his delegation, and three crew members.

Head of Communications Duran made the following statement on his NSosyal account:

''On December 23, 2025, a private jet departed Esenboğa Airport at 20:17, carrying Libya's Chief of General Staff Gen. Mohamed Ali Ahmed Al-Haddad, four members of his delegation, and three crew members. At 20:33, the aircraft declared an emergency due to an electrical malfunction, notified the air traffic control centre, and requested an emergency landing.

The air traffic control centre redirected the aircraft back to Esenboğa Airport, and the necessary safety measures were put in place at the airport. The aircraft, descending for an emergency landing, disappeared from radar at 20:36, and no further communication could be established afterwards.

As a result of the search operations initiated by teams under our Ministry of Interior, the wreckage of the aircraft, which was determined to have crashed, has been located. Our relevant authorities are diligently carrying out all necessary work.

During this process, it is critical that the public, especially the press and broadcasting organisations, rely solely on statements made by official authorities and refrain from giving credence to unverified information, speculation, or conspiracy theories circulating on social media to prevent the spread of disinformation.''
