Presidency's Head of Communications Burhanettin Duran shared his assessment of the NATO Ankara Summit in a message posted on his NSosyal account.
In his post, Head of Communications Duran said:
"We closely followed the intensive diplomatic engagements of our President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, as he continued his programme of contacts on the sidelines of the NATO Heads of State and Government Summit.
Yesterday, our President delivered his address at the NATO Ankara Summit, conveying important messages. Throughout the day, President Erdoğan held meetings with President Emmanuel Macron of France, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni of Italy, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Prime Minister Keir Starmer of the United Kingdom, President Ahmed al-Sharaa of Syria, President of the European Council António Costa, and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen. The meetings focused on advancing bilateral relations, strengthening cooperation in the defence industry, as well as trade, security, the European security architecture, and regional and global developments.
Our President once again emphasised Türkiye’s contributions to European security, the strengthening of NATO’s European pillar, and the importance it attaches to safeguarding the ‘transatlantic bond’. Türkiye’s resolute approach to securing a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, bringing the Ukraine–Russia war to an end through diplomacy, maintaining the memorandum between Iran and the US, and establishing stability in Syria were among the key topics discussed. The signing of the Security and Defence Partnership Agreement between the Republic of Türkiye and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland also marked an important step towards strengthening strategic cooperation.
In his remarks at the press conference following the NATO Ankara Summit, our President emphasised that Türkiye would resolutely continue its active diplomacy and cooperation with its allies, in line with its vision of peace, stability, and collective security.
Today, our President also met with Prime Minister Milojko Spajić of Montenegro, President Peter Pellegrini of Slovakia, and Prime Minister Edi Rama of Albania to discuss the development of bilateral relations and explore opportunities for cooperation in the fields of trade, defence, security, and energy.
The intense diplomatic activity that has been taking place since Monday as part of the NATO Ankara Summit has once again demonstrated Türkiye’s active role in strengthening international peace, security, and stability under the leadership of our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.”
