Head of Communications Altun sends video message to July 15 panel in London

Head of Communications Altun: "Under the leadership of our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Turkish democracy surmounted numerous obstacles and demonstrated its maturity to the whole world on July 15th."

The Presidency's Head of Communications Fahrettin Altun addressed the participants of the "Panel on July 15: Türkiye's Victory of Democracy," organised by our Directorate in London, the United Kingdom's capital, as part of the July 15 Democracy and National Unity Day events via video message.

Emphasising that the Turkish people displayed remarkable courage in their defence of democracy, freedom, independence, and their future in the face of the treacherous coup attempt on July 15, 2016, Head of Communication Altun said: "The putschist Fethullahist Terrorist Organisation's attempt to undermine our country's future was met with a resounding "no" from every member of our nation."

Stating that Türkiye's democratic experience and maturation enabled our nation to safeguard its will against FETO, which perpetrated all kinds of vicious acts in order to achieve its goals, Head of Communications Altun said: "We believe the coup attempt was thwarted thanks to the strength of our democracy and the courage of the Turkish people. The same strength and courage will ensure that the members of the Fethullahist Terrorist Organization will eventually receive the punishment they deserve."

Head of Communications Altun said, "Under the leadership of our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Turkish democracy surmounted numerous obstacles and demonstrated its maturity to the whole world on July 15th."

"The countries that constantly attempt to lecture Türkiye on democracy failed to give a proper response"

Stating that some countries did not show sufficient solidarity with the Turkish people, Head of Communications Altun said:

"Unfortunately, the countries that constantly attempt to lecture Türkiye on democracy did not exhibit a consistent stance in response to this victory. They failed to demonstrate sufficient solidarity with our nation. They failed to respond as strongly as they should have to the coup attempt. They granted asylum to coup plotters. I want to draw your attention to this hypocritical attitude once more, distinguished participants, and all individuals who believe in democracy and freedom."

Remarking that, exactly a century ago, the War of Independence inspired colonised societies around the world to pursue independence, Head of Communications Altun said, "In this century, the foiling of the July 15 coup attempt has inspired the people. This reality is demonstrated by the manner in which the most recent coup attempt in Bolivia has been suppressed."

Underlining that Türkiye is looked up to as an example with its democratic maturity and experience, as well as its success in suppressing coups, rather than countries that support formations such as FETO, which pose a threat to democracy, Head of Communications Altun continued:

"I commemorate with mercy and gratitude our martyrs who sacrificed their lives for our homeland on July 15 and express my gratitude to our veterans. Once again, I want to thank the distinguished speakers and participants. I hope that today's speeches and discussions will contribute to making our world more just and free."
