G20 Leaders’ Summit ends with a call for Russia’s “unconditional withdrawal” from Ukraine

The G20 Leaders' Summit, which brought together the world's largest economies, concluded with a call for Russia to withdraw completely and unconditionally from Ukrainian territory and that this era should not be an era of war.

The summit, which brought together G20 leaders on November 15-16 in Indonesia's Island of Bali, focused on the Russian-Ukrainian war, the energy and inflation crisis, the grain corridor, food security and the strengthening of global health systems.

The leaders initiated bilateral talks on November 14.

On his first day in Bali, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met with his Indonesian counterpart, Joko Widodo. The two leaders established the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council mechanism between the countries.

One of the most significant developments at the summit occurred between President Joe Biden of the US and President Xi Jinping of China. Biden met with Xi in person for the first time since taking office.

Following a meeting that was closely watched due to Taiwanese tensions with China, the White House reported that the two leaders held a "sincere" meeting in which they expressed their priorities and intentions on a variety of issues.

War has negative consenquences for the global economy

The first day of the summit began with President Widodo of Indonesia's welcoming ceremony for the G20 leaders. In a closed session, leaders discussed food and energy security, whereas the second session focused on global health systems.

On the second day of the summit, the leaders' agenda included a missile that fell on the village of Przewodow, on the Polish-Ukrainian border.

The summit, where President Erdoğan carried out intense diplomacy, ended with the announcement of the G20 Final Communique.

In the statement, the G20 countries demanded Russia's complete and unconditional withdrawal from Ukrainian territory while also stating that the current era should not be one of war.

In the statement, which underlined that many members condemned the war and the consequences of the war on the global economy, it was stated that urgent steps would be taken to ensure food security, especially for fragile countries.

Meanwhile, according to the information obtained from the Ministry of Treasury and Finance, the ministry actively carried out the G20 process in coordination with all relevant institutions as the G20 Sherpa and Financial Track coordinator.

In this process, while Türkiye played a mediating role with its ability to talk to all parties, it also displayed an active stance in issuing the final communique.

Another important development in the G20 Final Communique was that the Black Sea Grain Corridor Initiative, implemented under the leadership of Türkiye, was welcomed by all G20 members with reference to the Türkiye and İstanbul Grain Deal.

In addition, while the necessity of cooperation on refugees was included in the G20 Final Communique, issues related to bilateral economic and financial cooperation were discussed during the meetings of the Minister of Treasury and Finance, Nureddin Nebati, with his counterparts.
