Directorate of Communications to organize “Kazasker Mustafa İzzet Digital Exhibition” within the scope of “360 Culture and Art Show”

Within the scope of the “360 Culture and Art” project by the Directorate of Communications, the digital calligraphy works exhibition, which has been organised in memory of “Kazasker Mustafa İzzet Efendi,” who has his signature under many works of art all over the world ranging from the calligraphy plates with a diameter of 7.5 meters in the Hagia Sophia Mosque to the marble Ottoman epigraph on the Washington Monument will be held on December 15 at Marmara University, Sultanahmet Campus.

Directorate of Communications has been offering our national, historical, cultural, and scientific richness to the access of our citizens by utilizing cutting-edge communication tools and display techniques. The Directorate is implementing yet another new “360 Culture and Art” project, in which digital exhibitions will be held via hologram and special projection technology. Within this scope, the digital calligraphy works exhibition prepared in memory of “Kazasker Mustafa İzzet Efendi” who left his mark on many locations from the monumental plates with a diameter of 7.5 meters in the Hagia Sophia Mosque to the epigraph of the Topkapı Palace Treasury Room, the Surah Al-Insan in the Kavalalı’s Mausoleum in Cairo to the marble Ottoman epigraph on the Washington Monument, and also brought his own unique interpretation to calligraphy will be opened on December 15, Tuesday at Marmara University Sultanahmet Campus.

The works and life story of Kazasker Mustafa İzzet Efendi, one of the prominent figures of the 19th-century Ottoman calligraphy and music, and the pioneer of his time in the thuluth and naskh scripts will meet with art lovers within the scope of "360 Culture and Art Show" with three-dimensional hologram and special projection devices. It will be open to visitors from 10:00 to 16:00 until December 31, 2020. The exhibition will be closed to visitors at the weekend as part of the measures against Covid-19. Fever will be measured at the entrance to the exhibition, ensuring that the guests comply with the mask, social distance, and hygiene rules.

About Kazasker Mustafa İzzet Efendi

Kazasker Mustafa İzzet Efendi, one of the prominent representatives of the art of calligraphy with works beyond borders, was born in 1801 in Tosya, Kastamonu. He is one of the respected figures of the Ottoman art world. During his life, Mustafa İzzet Efendi has written Quran 11 times, more than 30 en’am, over 250 hilye, and hundreds of plates, verses, and murakka (calligraphic albums) throughout his life. His most important works also consist of the set of plaques he wrote during the restoration of the Hagia Sophia Mosque in 1848, as well as his stack of the Surah An-Nur in the dome. He is a calligrapher who is beyond borders with his inscription in the Washington Monument. Mustafa İzzet's naskh scripts were used in Ottoman printing until the alphabet revolution of 1928. Mustafa İzzet Efendi, who died on November 15, 1876, was buried in the burial area of the Kâdirihâne Tekke in Tophane.
