Stating that Armenia killed hundreds of civilians in Khojaly, which was the territory of Azerbaijan 29 years ago that day, Presidency’s Director of Communications Fahrettin Altun said, “We will call those responsible for this massacre to account before the law. I condemn the Khojaly massacre and wish the mercy of Allah upon those who lost their lives.”
Director of Communications Altun shared a video in English and Turkish on his Twitter account, portraying the massacre committed by Armenia in Khojaly of the Nagorno-Karabakh region in 1992.
Expressing in his post that Armenia killed hundreds of civilians in Khojaly, which was the territory of Azerbaijan 29 years ago that day, Altun said, “We will call those responsible for this massacre to account before the law. I condemn the Khojaly massacre and wish the mercy of Allah upon those who lost their lives.”
“Armenian forces were there to ethnically cleanse the area”
Recalling that the Armenian army seized Khojaly town in Azerbaijan on February 26, 1992, the following statements are also included in the video: “Upon entering the town, the Armenian military began to engage the unarmed civilian population. Yerevan’s objective was not limited to the occupation, the Armenian forces were there to ethnically cleanse the area. The ensuing tragedy would be one of the darkest moments of the Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict and came to be known as the Khojaly massacre.”
In the video, which features images of civilians who were attacked and had to leave the area, the following information is shared: “As Armenian troops were erasing the town, they indiscriminately killed 613 civilians, including 106 women, 63 children and 70 senior citizens and left 155 children without parents. Those who were lucky enough to escape the massacre became internally displaced. Now, almost 30 years later, Khojaly is still in ruins and the victims of the massacre are still seeking justice.”
In the video, it is reminded that Armenia once again initiated military actions against Azerbaijan in July and August last year, and the following is recorded:
“But this time, the outcome would be different. Baku took swift action to protect its citizens and then launched a decisive counteroffensive. With strong support from its close ally Turkey, Azerbaijan was able to liberate much of its territory after three decades of occupation. Khojaly is now awaiting to return to the days before the occupation. On this solemn day, as we commemorate the victims of the Khojaly massacre, we also see hope for a much brighter future for the brotherly nation Azerbaijan.”
The video ends with the images of Azerbaijani and Turkish flags waving side by side.
