Director of Communications Altun responds to burning of the Holy Quran in Sweden

Director of Communications Altun: "The so-called protestors are nothing but provocateurs who are determined to sow seeds of hatred against Türkiye and Islam. The Swedish authorities must wake up to the reality of terror groups intent on preventing Sweden’s NATO membership by poisoning their relationship with us."

In the written statement made by Presidency's Director of Communications Fahrettin Altun regarding the provocation of burning the Quran in front of Türkiye's Stockholm Embassy in Sweden, it is noted that Sweden must immediately act to prevent hatred filled provocations against Türkiye and fight against those who target Islam.

Emphasising that the Swedish authorities cannot hide behind the excuses such as freedom of expression and assembly, Director of Communications Altun said, "The so-called protestors are nothing but provocateurs who are determined to sow seeds of hatred against Türkiye and Islam. The Swedish authorities must wake up to the reality of terror groups intent on preventing Sweden’s NATO membership by poisoning their relationship with us."

Noting that the so-called protest in front of the Turkish Embassy in Sweden is clearly yet another example of the terror group PKK’s organised propaganda activities, Director of Communications Altun highlighted that it proves Türkiye right in insisting that Sweden cooperate with us over terrorism before joining NATO.

"For years, the PKK has been roaming free in European countries"

Stating that for years, the PKK has been roaming free in European countries, recruiting individuals and fundraising for terrorist activities to fight against Türkiye, Director of Communications said, "It is past time the European governments woke up to the reality of the PKK’s organised terrorist activities on their soil. They must make the clear distinction between Kurdish political activism and PKK’s terrorist activities."

Underlining that Türkiye will continue to insist that its European and NATO allies must care about its national security and terror threats against the country, Director of Communications Altun noted:

"They cannot treat so-called “protests” like the one planned for today as part of freedom of assembly or freedom of speech. We warn the Swedish authorities once again and call on them to ensure the security of our personnel in our embassy. They also must investigate the organisers of this event and find out their true connections and aims against our country. If the Swedish authorities are serious about their national security and want to join NATO accordingly, they must also care about the security of their potential NATO allies like Türkiye. Türkiye has been dealing with the reality of terrorism for more than four decades. Europe has been a major breeding ground for terror activities against our country. This must stop if any of these countries want genuine dialogue and a productive relationship with us."
