Director of Communications Altun responds to bill of law on recognition of so-called Armenian genocide

Director of Communications Altun: "It is ignorance, perversion, and even treason to present a slander regarding the events of 1915 targeting our nation and our history in the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye as a bill of law."

Presidency’s Director of Communications Fahrettin Altun responded to an MP from HDP for Diyarbakır, Garo Paylan's bill of law, which involves recognition of the so-called Armenian genocide, in a post he shared on his social media account.

Director of Communications Altun weighed in, saying, "It is ignorance, perversion, and even treason to present a slander regarding the events of 1915 targeting our nation and our history in the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye as a bill of law. We reject this defamation, which lacks historical facts and is therefore unconstitutional under international law and deem it null and void." and added:

"This unacceptable attempt is nothing more than an attack on our unity and solidarity by those who seek to exploit any unlawful opportunity to demonstrate their hatred for our country. The fact that this attack was carried out under the roof of the Veteran Assembly demonstrates the gravity of the situation. Within the legal framework, the Turkish state and nation will oppose this immorality and respond appropriately to this injustice. Those who are merely pawns in imperial plans will once again suffer defeat as a result of their negligence. Our history is clear of dark stains."

Director of Communications Altun stressed that those who ignore all calls for the truth out of fear of being exposed for their lies and slanders would not be allowed to exploit the events of 1915 through various distortions, and said:

"While our President's sincere efforts on this matter have received praise and appreciation from the Armenian community and opinion leaders, it is abundantly clear that the irrational accusations of malevolent persons seek to poison our thousand-year-old bond. We will continue to fight against all types of attacks on our unity and solidarity on all platforms as we live in peace and security with every component of our nation today, as we have in the past.

Towards this end, we believe that the exhibition and panel we are holding today in Vienna to honour our diplomats who were martyred by Armenian terrorist organisations, particularly ASALA, will have an impact on global public opinion. On this occasion, I remember our august martyrs with mercy once again.”
