The US television channel CBS News apologized for misrepresenting Istanbul as part of Greece following a warning letter from Presidency’s Director of Communications Fahrettin Altun.
According to a statement on the matter, CBS News channel management apologized for their mistake about Türkiye and Istanbul on the map in a report about Russian-Ukrainian war.
The apology letter of the channel management reads as follows:
"The graphic inaccurately identified Istanbul as part of Greece instead of Türkiye and was corrected as soon as the mistake was brought to our attention.
We are committed to accuracy in all our reporting and will review our process so that this type of error does not occur in the future.
Thank you for reaching out and for the opportunity to apologize on behalf of CBS News."
Presidency’s Director of Communications Altun had demanded that CBS News promptly rectify this mistake and provide relevant explanation about this disinformation, which misrepresented Istanbul as part of Greece in a report about the passage of Russian warships through the Straits.
Director of Communications Altun had underlined that necessary measures must be taken to refrain from taking any steps that could challenge Türkiye’s territorial integrity.
