568th anniversary of Istanbul’s conquest marked with visual feast

The 568th anniversary of Istanbul's conquest was marked with special visual events organised by the Presidency's Directorate of Communications in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism at symbolic locations across the city.

The events that began with a recitation of the Holy Quran at the Hagia Sofia Grand Mosque continued with a show at the Galata Tower using light and video mapping technology. The show featured a horse-riding image of Fatih Sultan Mehmed Han, who conquered Istanbul at the age of 21, thereby bringing an era to an end and ushering in a new one and transforming the Ottoman Empire into a global empire.

Images of the conquest were projected onto the sky over Hagia Sophia Grand Mosque, the symbol of the conquest, during the joyful celebration, in which information about the conquest was also voiced, using the sky mapping technology for the first time in Türkiye.
