Panel on “A Fairer World is Possible” held in Sweden

The Directorate of Communications held a panel titled "Stratcom Public Forum: A Fairer World is Possible" in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden.

The event opened with the screening of a promotional video themed "Stratcom Public Forum." This was followed by a video message from the Presidency's Head of Communications, Prof. Fahrettin Altun, which had been specially prepared for the panel and shared with participants.

The panel, moderated by Prof. Selver Buldanlıoğlu Şahin from Boğaziçi University, featured a distinguished line-up of speakers, including Yönet Can Tezel, Ambassador of Türkiye to Sweden; Prof. Isa Blumi from the Department of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies at Stockholm University; Paolo Lembo, international relations expert and former United Nations Director; Catherine Fiankan-Bokonga, President of ACANU (Association of Accredited Correspondents at the United Nations Office at Geneva); and Assoc. Prof. Burak Güneş from the Department of International Relations at Ahi Evran University. The audience included academics, journalists, and diplomats from various countries.

The panel addressed the challenges faced by international organisations, originally established to maintain global peace and security, in responding effectively to contemporary problems. It was noted that the erosion of these institutions' effectiveness and functionality has contributed to the worsening of conflicts and crises in many parts of the world, placing global stability and security under serious threat. Speakers highlighted that the current global system and international structures have increasingly been shaped by political and economic interests, drifting away from sustainability and justice. In light of these concerns, the panel emphasised the urgent need for a fairer, more inclusive, and more effective model of global governance.

The discussion also underscored the importance of adopting a more participatory, transparent, and equitable approach to resolving global challenges such as regional conflicts, migration crises, and environmental issues. Within this framework, Türkiye’s constructive efforts in these areas were highlighted, along with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s proposals centred on justice, peace, and functionality in the international system — symbolised by the motto “The world is bigger than five”.

As part of the event, a photo exhibition themed “Century of Türkiye” was held, and guests also attended a screening of the documentary “Devrim”, which explores the artistic legacy of painter Devrim Erbil and his career spanning over 60 years.
