Azerbaijan Media and NGOs met in İzmir

With the contribution of İzmir Regional Directorate of Presidency's Directorate of Communications and under the auspices of the Agency for State Support to NGOs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, an event was held in Izmir bringing together Azerbaijani media and civil society representatives, organised by the Azerbaijan Media Analysis Centre in collaboration with the Federation of Friendship Associations of Azerbaijani Turks (ATDDF).

The event, held at the Meeting Hall of the İzmir Regional Directorate of the Presidency's Directorate of Communications, was attended by approximately 50 participants, including members of the media from Azerbaijan and representatives of non-governmental organisations.

The meeting began with ATDDF President İsa Ambarcı presenting a plaque of appreciation to Cengiz Kutlu Yüksel, İzmir Regional Director of the Presidency's Directorate of Communications. Delivering the opening speech of the event, Yüksel highlighted the shared historical, cultural, and social heritage of Türkiye and Azerbaijan, emphasising that strategic cooperation and brotherly relations between the two countries continue to grow stronger in all areas in line with the principle of "one nation, two states." Yüksel also stated that the Türkiye-Azerbaijan Media Platform was established as part of the memorandum of understanding between the two countries, underscoring the importance of developing a unified discourse to foster media cooperation and continue Azerbaijan's rightful struggle in this context.

During the event, presentations were given on the historical struggle of the Western Azerbaijani Turks, who were displaced from their homeland as a result of forced migration, and the life and literary legacy of Âşık Ali Askeri, one of the most prominent figures in Azerbaijani folk literature, were introduced to the participants.

The event, which aimed to strengthen cultural ties between Türkiye and Azerbaijan and reinforce their shared historical memory, concluded with a memorial discussion honouring journalists Sirac Abışov and Muharrem İbrahimov, who were martyred while carrying out their professional duties.
