Erdoğan says elections will be held on May 14

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Türkiye stated that the country is still in the process of recovering from two earthquakes that affected a large portion of the country and that elections for the presidency and parliament are scheduled for May 14.

In his address to the party group meeting, Erdoğan stated, "The time has come. On May 14, this nation will take the necessary action. They will not yield to those who fire blanks."

Erdoğan had previously announced that the elections would take place on May 14 to avoid interfering with seasonal migrations and university exams.

After the earthquakes that occurred on February 6, the possibility of postponing the elections began to be discussed.

The earthquakes that impacted ten provinces rendered tens of thousands of people homeless.

AFAD has announced that approximately 2 million people have been evacuated from the disaster zone.
