“We will transfer 10 million m³/day of Black Sea natural gas to our national grid in the first quarter of 2023”

Making a speech at a ceremony for laying the first pipe for the Black Sea natural gas, President Erdoğan said: “We will be transferring the 10 million m³/day of natural gas to be extracted in the first phase in the Black Sea to our national grid by the first quarter of 2023. Sakarya Natural Gas Field will hopefully reach the peak production in 2026. We aim to raise our daily gas production capacity to 40 million m³ with the 40 wells to be opened in the field.”

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made a speech at a ceremony for the placement and welding of the first pipe of the Black Sea Natural Gas.

Expressing his happiness to be reaching a new phase in the Black Sea gas, Türkiye’s biggest natural gas exploration, President Erdoğan said: “If you remember, we shared two years ago the good news that our target was to put our domestic natural gas in the service of our nation by 2023. We have been working very hard since then. Following the exploration by the Fatih, our drilling vessels Yavuz and Kanuni also arrived at the Black Sea. These vessels conducted the lower and upper completion operations of the drilling wells opened by the Fatih.”

Noting that the sea bottom surveys had been finalized and that tools whose delivery would take long had been ordered, with some already delivered, President Erdoğan said: “The construction of the natural gas processing plant, for which we broke the ground last year, is continuing at a fast pace. The Yavuz Drilling Vessel is placing the smart wellhead and downhole valves that will measure the gas flow in the wells opened. Last week, the vessel that will lay and install the pipe in the shallow sea section has arrived in Türkiye. Today, we, saying ‘Bismillah,’ are laying the first pipes at the sea and making the first welding.”

Pointing out that the first welding in the deep sea section was set to be made in July, President Erdoğan said: “It is not only about doing the maritime work. In parallel with the pipeline we will be building at deep sea, we will also be starting the construction of the 211 km-long pipeline on land that will carry natural gas to our national grid. Once the gas reaches land, it will be processed and then will be transferred to our national grid with a certain level of pressure following decomposition. In the first phase of this project, we are building the Western Black Gas Measurement Station to measure the gas reaching the Natural Gas Processing Plant and the 36 km-long Western Black Sea Natural Gas Line Phase-1. Hopefully, we will have completed the work here by early November.”

Stressing that Türkiye would be transferring the 10 million m³/day of natural gas to be extracted in the first phase in the Black Sea to its national grid by the first quarter of 2023, President Erdoğan said: “Sakarya Natural Gas Field will hopefully reach the peak production in 2026. We aim to raise our daily gas production capacity to 40 million m³ with the 40 new wells to be opened in the field. In parallel with the rise in production in the field, we will also be increasing our natural gas transportation capacity.”
