Speaking at the 86th anniversary event of the enfranchisement of Turkish women, President Erdoğan said: “We will take every kind of measures to protect women against harms which they should never be subjected to as human beings in the first place – particularly against violence and discrimination. We will, for sure, support women in every area from education and professional life to politics and NGO activities.”
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made a speech at an event marking the 86th anniversary of the introduction of full suffrage for women in Turkey.
Drawing attention to the great efforts exerted by AK Party governments with the aim of making sure that women come to the level they deserve in every sphere of life including in politics, President Erdoğan said: “We have stood with women by correcting wrong practices through legal and administrative amendments.”
Highlighting the fact that the right to vote and to be elected had been introduced for Turkish women not as a result of any coercion but that it rather had happened within its own natural trajectory, President Erdoğan underlined: “This is what we should do today as well. We will pay heed to our own civilizational and historical values, not anything else, in our efforts to strengthen our family as an institution, of which man, woman and children are basic elements.”
