Holding a joint press conference with President Raisi of Iran, President Erdoğan drew attention to the two countries’ target of 30 billion dollars in trade volume, and said: “We have reached 7.5 billion dollars as of now. And I believe that we will achieve 30 billion dollars with the resolute march of the two countries.”
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and President Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi of Iran held a joint press conference at the Sa'dabad Historical-Cultural Complex following the 7th Meeting of the Türkiye-Iran High Level Cooperation Council in Tehran.
“WE HAVE REACHED 7.5 BILLION DOLLARS IN BILATERAL TRADE VOLUME”
President Erdoğan expressed his belief that the consultations held during the meetings between the leaders as well as between the delegations would add a new impetus to the bilateral relations.
Stressing that President Raisi’s vision of improving Iran’s relations with its neighbors is very valuable, President Erdoğan said they as the Presidents had the opportunity to extensively share their views on political, military, economic and cultural issues during their meetings.
Drawing attention to the two countries’ 30 billion dollars target in bilateral trade volume, President Erdoğan stated: “We experienced a significant regression due to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, we have reached 7.5 billion dollars as of now. I believe that we will achieve 30 billion dollars with the resolute march of the two countries. We can speed up this process with the steps we will take in defense industry. This can also be expedited with the steps that would be taken related to natural gas and oil. As you know, we as Türkiye have made a substantial leap forward in defense industry. Cooperation on this issue is of utmost importance to me.”
“TERRORIST ORGANIZATIONS SUCH AS PJAK, PKK, PYD, YPG AND FETO SERIOUSLY BESET BOTH OF THE COUNTRIES”
Underlining the importance of the fight against terrorism, President Erdoğan said: “Terrorist organizations such as the PJAK, PKK, PYD, YPG and FETO seriously beset both of the countries. As you know, we have incorporated them in the NATO agreement as well. That is so because they cause trouble in whichever country they operate. We need to cooperate against them.”
Referring to the meeting to be held later in the day by the leaders of Türkiye, Russia and Iran as the Astana Trio, President Erdoğan stated: “Mr. Putin, Mr. Raisi and I will be discussing the most recent developments. There will be a situation in which the Astana Process may be re-assessed and revived. I hereby thank all the relevant ministers. I particularly ask them to continue their collaboration and solidarity.”
