Speaking at a joint press conference with Prime Minister Sharif of Pakistan, President Erdoğan said: “We stand ready to further strengthen the Türkiye-Pakistan relations with a strategic perspective and in line with the history, friendship and potential between the two countries.”
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan held a joint press conference following their meeting at the Presidential Complex.
“WE ARE PLEASED WITH THE COOPERATION PROJECTS WITH PAKISTAN”
Recalling that 2022 marked the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Türkiye and Pakistan, President Erdoğan said: “We stand ready to further strengthen the Türkiye-Pakistan relations with a strategic perspective and in line with the history, friendship and potential between the two countries. We are pleased with the tangible cooperation projects recently developed with Pakistan in the area of defense industry. Our jointly-built corvette as part of the MILGEM Project sets an important example in this sense.”
Underscoring that the bilateral trade between the two countries had been boosted despite the pandemic, and that the bilateral trade volume had for the first time since 2011 exceeded 1 billion dollars, President Erdoğan stated that Türkiye and Pakistan worked to enhance the cooperation between the two countries particularly in the areas of tourism, education, logistics, civil aviation, communication and information technologies.
“WE SUPPORT PAKISTAN IN ITS FIGHT AGAINST TERROR IN ALL ITS FORMS”
Thanking Pakistani officials for the measures, taken against the FETO’s structuring in Pakistan, and the support provided to Türkiye’s fight against this terrorist organization, President Erdoğan said: “On this occasion, I wish Allah’s mercy upon the soldiers who died a martyr’s death and our brothers and sisters who lost their lives in the terrorist acts that are on the rise in the recent period in Pakistan. Also, I wish speedy recovery to all the Pakistanis who have been injured. We support Pakistan in its fight against terror in all its forms.”
Also touching upon the situation in Afghanistan, President Erdoğan noted: “Lasting stability in Afghanistan is of critical importance in terms of averting such threats as terrorist acts and new irregular migration waves in the region. We exert joint efforts to help the Afghan people and overcome the repercussions of the humanitarian crisis in the country. As Türkiye we have sent four benevolence trains carrying over 4 tons of humanitarian aid material. Our preparations for the fifth train’s departure is underway as well. Also, we maintain our support for the resolution of the Kashmir issue, another matter of critical importance in terms of regional peace and stability, in line with the legitimate expectations of our brothers and sisters in Kashmir and within the framework of the UN resolutions.”
