Speaking at a public housing draw in Istanbul, President Erdoğan said: “We are sincerely endeavoring to enhance the infrastructure of our cities and make them more earthquake-resistant. Our social housing and urban transformation initiatives are the most concrete manifestations of these efforts. Today, I am proud to say that, through TOKİ, we have delivered 1,762,000 social housing units to our people.”
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan delivered a speech at a public housing draw in Istanbul.
“I hope that the 100,000 housing units for which we will hold a draw as part of our 500,000 social housing project will be auspicious to our beneficiaries, as well as to Istanbul, our country, and our nation,” President Erdoğan said.
“The only solution for Istanbul's safety is urban transformation”
“We are sincerely endeavoring to enhance the infrastructure of our cities and make them more earthquake-resistant. Our social housing and urban transformation initiatives are the most concrete manifestations of these efforts. Today, I am proud to say that, through TOKİ (Housing Development Administration), we have delivered 1,762,000 social housing units to our people. With these homes, we have provided modern living spaces—complete with mosques, parks, walking paths, and other social amenities—for more than 6 million of our citizens. To date, we have successfully transformed 986,000 units in Istanbul and 2,262,000 units across Türkiye. In Istanbul, construction is currently underway on 232,533 units, while the planning process is ongoing for 125,000 units as part of urban transformation efforts. The only solution for Istanbul’s safety is urban transformation. There is nothing more urgent or higher-priority on Istanbul’s agenda. The more prepared and resistant Istanbul is to disasters, the stronger it will be,” President Erdoğan said.
“In less than three years after the February 6 earthquake, we delivered more than 455, 000 homes”
“While doing all these with regard to urban transformation, we also worked with a spirit of full mobilization in our earthquake-hit region. Immediately following February 6, when we lost more than 53,000 lives, we laid the foundations for earthquake-resistant housing units within 15 days and handed over the first keys within 45 days. Across 174 separate project sites and 3,500 construction sites, with over 200,000 personnel, we rebuilt and revitalized our quake-hit region in a very short time. We restored 11 of our provinces—with their parks, gardens, infrastructure, markets, historic structures, streets, squares, and avenues—back to their former glory. On December 27, less than three years after the disaster, we handed over more than 455,000 homes and businesses to the disaster victims. Now our brothers and sisters there are living comfortably with their families and loved ones in their new homes, their hearts at peace. Thankfully, production, commerce, education, and social life in our quake-hit cities have returned to their former rhythm and vitality,” President Erdoğan said.
