In his address on the fight against coronavirus, President Erdoğan said: “We, together with the citizens, determinedly continue our fight against the COVID-19 disease. We have entered a period during which we should make more sacrifices in order to get through this crisis the humanity is faced with. The stronger our unity and solidarity are, the less damage we incur from this period.”
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made a speech on the latest measures taken as part of the efforts to contain the spread of coronavirus.
“We have entered a period during which we should make more sacrifices''
Noting that the COVID-19 disease, which has affected the entire world, is getting more and more widespread and claiming increasingly more lives, President Erdoğan said: “This grave disaster, in which the number of patients worldwide has reached 600 thousand and nearly 27 thousand people have died, has affected us along with everybody else. As of today, there are a total of 5698 identified cases and unfortunately 92 deaths. Out of the 344 patients receiving intensive care, 42 have recovered. I once again wish Allah’s mercy upon the dead and extend my condolences to their relatives.”
Drawing attention to the decisive steps Turkey has been taking against the COVID-19 in solidarity with the citizens, President Erdoğan stated: “We have entered a period during which we should make more sacrifices in order to get through this crisis the humanity is faced with. The stronger our unity and solidarity are, the less damage we incur from this period.”
“We don't have any problems about food and drug''
Noting that Turkey met the pandemic in the most prepared manner possible, President Erdoğan said that Turkey, which has strengthened its economy and production infrastructure, now enjoys the advantages of being self-sufficient in many areas. We have also gained additional advantages since we have diligently monitored the process starting from the first days of the outbreak and taken necessary measures. Thankfully, we don’t have any problems about food and drug. In both of the areas, the production and supply chains are functioning smoothly. Because we can manufacture by ourselves such materials as testing kits, gloves and masks, which are of importance in the fight against the disease, we don’t experience any problems regarding them, either.”
“We meet all the needs of our citizens and medical personnel related to diagnosis and treatment''
President Erdoğan stated: “Turkey is the country with the largest number of intensive care beds in ratio to population in the world. We also get materials from abroad when necessary. As such, we have rapidly increased the number of tests by putting into use the quick-diagnosis testing kits we imported from abroad. We have inaugurated across Turkey the centers where both these rapid-diagnosis testing kits and the indigenously-manufactured ones are in use together. The tests are definitely free of charge. The first part of the drugs for treatment have reached and we have started to use them. The rest will be coming. We meet all the needs of our citizens and medical personnel related to diagnosis and treatment.”
The President also disclosed a package of additional measures as part of the fight against the pandemic. According to this package, inter-city travel will be subjected to the permission of the governor’s office; the private sector, as has been the case in the public sector, will transition to flexible working hours with minimum personnel; social distancing will be applied in public transport; picnic spots, forests and archeological sites will be closed at weekends and will accept no groups on weekdays; soldiers will also be subjected to the 14-day quarantine rule during their admission and dismissal periods; there will be no international flights; and provincial pandemic councils will be formed to follow the implementation of the measures and, where necessary, take additional measures in provinces.
