“Türkiye’s return to Formula 1 will add substantial value to the championship”

Speaking at the debut of Formula 1 Türkiye GP, President Erdoğan said: “I believe that our return to Formula 1 starting from 2027 will add substantial value to the championship. I view Türkiye's return to the Formula 1 calendar as a new sign of the strong confidence in our country's robust organizational capabilities, its modern sports and health infrastructure, its consolidated role as an island of stability in the region in recent years, and of course, the hospitality of the Turkish people.”

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan delivered remarks at the debut of Formula 1 Türkiye GP in Istanbul.

Noting that Türkiye hosted the Formula 1 nine times since 2005, President Erdoğan said: “The first race in 2005 broke a record in the history of the Republic with over 110,000 spectators in the stands alone. Legendary races, unforgettable events, and hard-to-break records have etched Istanbul Park into memory as one of Formula 1's most popular circuits. Especially during a time when the world was battling the pandemic, people were confined to their homes, and sporting events were being cancelled one after another, we demonstrated the importance we attach to this sport by opening our doors to Formula 1.”

“Given Türkiye's track record of achievements, I believe that our return to Formula 1 starting from 2027 will add substantial value to the championship. Istanbul Park, a favorite among racing enthusiasts with its Turn 8 in particular, will, hopefully, host impressive, thrilling, and highly delightful races during a whole five seasons from 2027 to 2031,” President Erdoğan said.

“I view Türkiye's return to the Formula 1 calendar as a new sign of the strong confidence in our country's robust organizational capabilities, its modern sports and health infrastructure, its consolidated role as an island of stability in the region in recent years, and of course, the hospitality of the Turkish people. We as Türkiye will live up to this confidence once again as we have done before, and we will host the races with a flawless organization in every aspect,” President Erdoğan said.
