Türkiye’s peace efforts in Russia-Ukraine war published in a book

The Presidency's Directorate of Communications published a book titled "Türkiye's Contribution to Stability: Multidimensional Diplomacy for Peace" on Türkiye's peace efforts in the Russia-Ukraine war, as well as steps taken by Türkiye to end the crisis and ensure regional stability under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The book details Türkiye's activities prioritizing peace since the beginning of the Ukraine-Russia crisis and Türkiye's efforts to end the crisis and ensure regional stability under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The book is divided into four chapters: "Global Leadership in Building a World of Peace", "Türkiye's Stance on the War", "Maintaining Open Channels of Dialogue", and "Humanitarian and Enterprising Diplomacy".

The first chapter of the book covers President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's intense diplomatic traffic with Ukraine and Russia, as well as international organizations such as NATO and the EU, and regional actors since the beginning of the Ukraine-Russia crisis.

The book underlines the importance of regulating the global security architecture in light of President Erdoğan's statements "The World Is Bigger Than 5" and "A Fairer World Is Possible".

In the second chapter, which concentrates on Türkiye's efforts to prevent the war, the emphasis on Ukraine's territorial integrity and diplomatic initiatives carried out under the call for a ceasefire are discussed in detail.

The third chapter, which outlines Türkiye's involvement in maintaining open channels of dialogue during the Ukraine-Russia crisis, emphasizes Türkiye's position as a point of balance between Ukraine and Russia. The book highlights Türkiye's role as one of the few countries that can maintain dialogue with both countries as well as the significance of Türkiye's hosting the peace talks.

The last chapter of the book focuses on Türkiye's diplomacy perspective that places people in the centre. It highlights Türkiye's sensitivity towards the protection of civilian elements since the beginning of the crisis, the humanitarian aid supplied to Ukraine, Türkiye 's efforts to keep humanitarian corridors in conflict zones open, and Türkiye's leading role in ensuring the security of the Black Sea and opening the grain corridor.

The book also includes efforts to rebuild Ukraine's destroyed infrastructure and Türkiye's peace and stability-oriented public diplomacy activities.

"NATO has important responsibilities"

The introduction of the book, which has been published in Turkish and English, was written by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

President Erdoğan said we are living in a time when every country is feeling the effects of the global pandemic across all sectors, and regional, political and economic tensions as well as hot conflicts are disrupting the world order. President Erdoğan indicated that while the humanitarian crisis and political issues in crisis regions such as Syria, Yemen, Afghanistan, Libya, Iraq, and Arakan remain unresolved, the entire world, particularly Eastern Europe, has been forced to confront with the devastation and misery caused by the Ukraine-Russia war.

It has once again been demonstrated that even the smallest problem if overlooked, can result in disasters, President Erdoğan stated and went on to add that this war has once again revealed the critical need for international organizations established to safeguard security and stability to be more effective and decisive in their actions.

President Erdoğan pointed to the enormous responsibility that NATO, which has played a critical role in promoting security and stability since its establishment, bears in this context and that it will be decisive in NATO's future to resolve the issues of global security architecture as quickly as possible and ensure complete solidarity of member states both inside the alliance and in bilateral relations.

"Türkiye is making a strong diplomatic effort to achieve peace"

Stating that Türkiye has been a member of NATO for 70 years and it has decisively and effectively fulfilled all the requirements of the spirit of the alliance, as one of the five countries that contributed the most to NATO, President Erdoğan made the following remarks:

"Türkiye, which plays an active role in contributing to the resolution, peace, and stability in regional and global crises ranging from Afghanistan to the Balkans, Africa to the Caucasus, also makes a strong diplomatic effort to achieve peace between Russia and Ukraine. Everyone must act with the same sense of responsibility to avoid further humanitarian tragedies, especially loss of life and forced migration.

Türkiye respects international law, justice, equity, and mutual respect and interest in its relations with neighbouring countries as well as its alliances. As a reliable ally, we are fulfilling our obligations in the face of several challenges that NATO continues to face. As we have done thus far, we will continue to contribute to the establishment of global peace, prosperity, and stability within the context of an enterprising and humanitarian foreign policy."
