Türkiye’s multilateral diplomacy on Israel-Palestine conflict

Türkiye is engaging in multilateral diplomacy to end the Israel-Palestine tension before it spreads to other countries in the region, as well as to launch negotiations between the parties. 

Since the outbreak of the conflicts, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has communicated with a number of world leaders.

The previous day, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held phone calls on Israel-Palestine during breaks from the Presidential Cabinet meeting, which lasted approximately four hours at the Presidential Complex.

In this regard, President Erdoğan first spoke by phone with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim of Malaysia and discussed the recent developments regarding Israel and Palestine.

President Erdoğan then spoke by phone with President Mahmoud Abbas of Palestine and stated that Türkiye makes every effort in order for the conflicts in the region to end and for peace to be immediately restored.

President Erdoğan also spoke by phone with Prime Minister Najib Mikati of Lebanon and addressed the increasing conflicts in the region within the framework of the Israel-Palestine tension.

President Erdoğan discussed the latest developments in the two countries as well as regional tensions with President Isaac Herzog of Israel over the phone.

President Erdoğan told Herzog that all should act with common sense, and that the immediate restoration of peace is critical to the serenity of the entire region, and he noted that Türkiye’s efforts will continue to intensify in order for the worrying conflicts to end and for lasting peace to be ensured.

As part of his diplomacy traffic, President Erdoğan also spoke by phone with Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani of Qatar. During the conversation, the escalating conflicts in the region within the context of the Israel-Palestine tension were discussed and opinions were exchanged.

President Erdoğan also spoke by phone with President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi of Egypt.

President Erdoğan and Sisi discussed the latest developments with regard to the tension between Israel and Palestine and addressed ways to bring an end to the tension during their conversation.

President Erdoğan, who also spoke by phone with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, emphasised that disproportionate attacks may further exacerbate the deadlock and that it is of vital importance for the parties to act with common sense and avoid impulsive steps.

In a phone call with President Vladimir Putin of Russia, President Erdoğan discussed the alarming course of the Israel-Palestine conflict and the measures to prevent the escalation of the tension. During the phone call, views were exchanged on potential initiatives to meet humanitarian needs in the region.

Noting that it is regrettable to target civilian settlements and that Türkiye doesn’t look favorably on such acts, President Erdoğan stated that Türkiye will continue to exert every effort to ensure calm in the region.

As part of his phone calls regarding the Israel-Palestine conflict, President Erdoğan spoke with King Abdullah II of Jordan. The two leaders noted the need to remain alert to the possibility of the conflict spreading to the whole region, while President Erdoğan expressed his readiness to provide any kind of support, including mediation, to end the tension.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan later spoke by phone with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune of Algeria. Noting that the aim was to end the tension before it spread to other countries in the region and to pave the way for a fair peace through negotiations, President Erdoğan stated that Türkiye's sincere and peaceful efforts were expected to be supported by the international community, particularly by the regional countries.

In another phone call with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia, President Erdoğan stated that Türkiye has launched efforts to deliver aid to innocent civilians affected by the attacks, that it is unacceptable to bomb civilian settlements and that it is important for regional countries to give constructive messages for the termination of the conflicts.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and intelligence units have increased their efforts in the areas of mediation and prisoner exchange.
