A joint statement was issued to mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Türkiye and Qatar at the beginning of the delegation meeting under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Temim bin Hamed Al Thani at Lusail Palace.
In the statement issued on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Türkiye and Qatar, it was stated that it is sincerely desired to advance economic and trade relations that serve the interests of the two brotherly nations and their respective peoples.
In the joint statement signed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani it was noted that they were pleased to commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
In the statement, it was stated that Turkish-Qatari relations had undergone a qualitative transformation since their establishment in 1973 and that the existing cooperation between the two brotherly countries continued to strengthen day by day under the leadership of President Erdoğan and Emir of Qatar Al Thani.
The statement read, "Türkiye-Qatar relations reflect deep-rooted historical ties built on political and social foundations, as evidenced by the fact that the two countries have consistently supported each other in the spirit of brotherhood and solidarity throughout many pivotal periods in their history, and the two countries continue to mutually support each other in various fields."
In the statement, which stated that the most recent example of this was the assistance provided during the earthquake that struck Türkiye in February 2023, the following was noted:
"This solidarity has also manifested itself in the exceptional humanitarian assistance provided by Qatar through the air corridor it created with military planes to deliver aid from the first moment of the earthquake, helping to alleviate the suffering of thousands of Turks.
The current strategic partnership between Türkiye and Qatar is productive at all levels, and the two countries share similar perspectives on the vast majority of regional and international issues. The High Strategic Committee mechanism, which has met annually since 2015, is one of the most tangible indicators of the bilateral partnership between the two brotherly countries. Nearly 100 documents aimed at enhancing bilateral cooperation in various sectors and fields have been signed through this strategic committee. The volume of trade and investment, as well as economic and commercial cooperation between the two countries, has increased steadily over the past few years. We are sincerely committed to advancing economic and commercial ties that serve the interests of our two brotherly countries and our people."
In the joint statement, it was emphasised that the cultural, social, and religious ties that draw their strength from the depths of history brought the two nations together, and the following statements were included:
"Regarding the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, which was organised with unprecedented success by Qatar, Türkiye made significant contributions to the tournament's success through its companies and experts in a variety of fields, particularly in contracting and hotel management, as well as by providing security support. On the basis of our strategic relations and bilateral cooperation in the political, diplomatic, economic, and commercial spheres, and in accordance with the directives of the wise leaders of the two countries, we are determined to continue our joint efforts to ensure the continuation of the strengthening of bilateral relations for the mutual benefit of the two brotherly countries and peoples."
